So how many of you golfers have had a hole in one?

I’ve never had one. I’ve holed out from 90 to 120 yards three or four times for eagles on par 4s. I holed an eagle with a 3 wood from 215 to win around $300 bucks in a skins game at Seven Springs outside of Pittsburgh in a company outing once. But I’ve never had an ace. Anyone?

My history is similar to yours. I’ve gotten tee shots within six inches probably 2-3 times but never in with one shot. I take dead aim almost every time because time is running out. I’m on about the fifteenth tee (hopefully) of life.

#6 at Riviera in the early 90s. Almost aced #16 that same day. Rolled a 5 wood right over the hole, about 5 feet past the hole. Holed an approach shot at #2 at Orchard Hills. Sliced my driver up on the hillside, walked up the hill with my 9 iron, chunked it, got pissed, walked 8 yards forward and put it in the hole on the fly. The ball had a huge red paint mark on it.

Thursday at Sleepy Hollow...#7, par 5...decent drive down the right side of fairway that kicks into rough on right. Playing it down (league play) I don’t get enough club face on second shot (ball is down deep) with 3 iron and only hit it about 70 yards. I’m now 160 out with tree trouble. I’m thinking I can keep it down but no...catch a limb and the ball defects right to around 90 yards laying 3. I have a bunker to hit over with about 7 to 8 feet of green to work with. Impossible shot. I open up a 60 degree and the ball carries the bunker and lands five feet from the pin soft and rolls into the hole. Birdie. I love golf.

Never. Back in early '00s when playing daily, my claim to personal golf fame was driving consistently 400 yards....200 straight, 200 to the right. I actually had slice worked out when I gave up playing all the time (first kid born '02). Last game i played then I shot a 78. Played like 3 times a year since.

Every once in a while I'd get it locked down straight and blast a ball 350+ down the middle. Drove the green several times on various dog leg right holes only to 2 or 3 putt for par or bird.

Once drove a green on a hard dog leg par 5 hole hitting over ob trees to get there. 2 putted that one for eagle.

Plain and simple, I pretty much suck at the game, but likely because I rarely play and when I do it's typically a beer a hole on the front 9.

I was looking at new clubs and none of the new sets even include a 3 iron any more. Everyone is going to the 3 and 4 hybrid. I just can’t hit them. Joining Sleepy Hollow, I finally have access to a driving range. I plan on beating 3 woods and hybrids till I have them figured out. Just waiting for school to end to get the time. Right now if I have time to practice, I’m playing.

Play the hybrids in your stance the same as your 4-5 iron. Swing like you’re hitting an iron with a descending strike. Took me a couple of months to convince my brain that I wasn’t hitting a wood. I like a small divot with my 3-4 hybrids.

My problem isn’t convincing my brain. My problem is getting it out of the way.

I don't even carry a 3 wood. No need to with modern woods. 3 wood is just damn hard to hit off the deck.
