Speaking of Hoops - Ck out some of this weeks Top 25 teams

Interesting when you look at some of the teams in the Top 25 and Top 10 or within striking distance of the Top 10

Xaiver
Gonzaga
Creighton
St. Marys
Butler
Rhode Island

Not exactly gigantic schools , none in one of the major conferences but all Top 25 programs with X, Gonzaga and Creighton in the Top 10 , St. Marys just outside at # 12.

Goes to show what good solid recruiting can and does ultimately accomplish.

How many of those schools play FBS football?

Heck, how many of those schools have any kind of football program?

And I would argue Creighton, Butler and Xavier are absolutely members of a major conference.

I actually didn't know they played football at all. I know Rhode Island does but I don't think any of the others listed do.

Eh, I just know because Indiana. I doubt anyone goes to their games, hell no one goes to IU games.

So they spend no money really on football. Makes sense, no one outside of ND cares about football here.

On the flip side, Marshall could do the same and would not get to their level in basketball. Different place entirely, this state is ate up with basketball.

Major - SEC , ACC ,BIG 10 ,BIG 12 , PAC 10 - the Big East is not what it formerly was and most everyone realizes that.

Sure its still an over all better hoops league than CUSA , but again your not talking about one of the Power Conferences.

The Big East is absolutely still a power conference in basketball. No, it's not what it once was but at worst its the 6th best conference in the country.

Right now the conference has four teams in the top 18.

Last year as a conference they finished ranked 4th and put 5 teams in the tourney. Don't forget they also produced the national champion.

In 2014 they finished second as a conference in the RPI rankings and received 6 bids to the big dance.

Ok guys , will agree , was just trying to get something rolling on another subject outside of the pathetic football program and season. I would also agree the Big East still has it when it comes to hoops and being able to take their place with any conference going. Still miss the days when Cuse / Nova / St. Johns - JB , Rolly and Lou were going at it.
