Includes three Marshall games:

Miami Ohio at Marshall, 6:30 p.m. ET

FIU at Marshall, 2:30 p.m. ET

Marshall at UTSA, 7:00 p.m. ET

Custom-produced for a Facebook audience, Stadium will introduce uniquely coordinated production assets and social elements to create a first-ever viewing experience. Specific elements are projected to include:
  • Live curated chat experiences from well-known and well-respected football personalities running concurrently with the live production, closely coordinated with the production truck and on-air presentation.
  • Dedicated social production team and correspondents working the sidelines of the game to bring the in-game experience to the viewing audience at home and engage them in conversation.
  • Ongoing integration of real-time social elements provided by the competing schools.

Coverage is coverage, but I can do without "curated chat experiences" and "real time social elements". Was hoping that the UTSA game would find its way onto real TV as it is being done for broadcast in San Antonio by a station owned by Sinclair company, which owns 8 & 11 here.

So the schedule is:

Little Miami (Facebook internet)
NC State (ESPN3 internet)
Kent State (none as of now, only game that week with no TV listed at all)
Cincinnati (rights belong to THE AMERICAN!!!!, TBA, probably ESPN3 internet)
UNCC (local cable in Charlotte, maybe ESPN3)
Old Dominion (ESPN3 internet)
Middle Tennessee (ESPN2, actual real TV)
FIU (Facebook internet)
FAU (CBSSN, actual real TV)
WKU ( BEIN channel, actual real TV)
UTSA (Facebook internet)
Southern Miss (Stadium TV, actual real TV)

So we have four games on real TV and three that people are going to have to stream on Facebook?... I'm sure someone will chime in to tell me about how much more money we make being in CUSA and how much better it is to not have to play on Thursday nights, but man, at least Thursday night games are on some form of television.

Looks like I'm SOL on Kent State unless I can find some online stream since it's one of the two home games I cant make.

better get used to the online streaming - facebook and other outlets are investing tons o' cash in upgrading their infrastructure and business models to support this type of broadcast - could work in our favor in the long run with creating a global footprint

How tough is it to hook the laptop to your TV and watch it on a bigger screen? For gosh sake, you can see the game and not have to pay or drive to Huntington or a road venue for that matter. It also gives you the ability to watch on your phone.
As someone else said, it may not be long before all non P5 games on being streamed. The cash cow is running dry.

i'd bet kent ends up streaming somewhere.

you can get a chromecast cheap to stream from your phone/tablet/laptop to your tv quite easily.

I have chromecast and the quality is pathetic for live events... And I know that some of yall are going to find this hard to believe, but there are a lot of places in Appalachia without high speed internet. Streaming games works fine if you live in Huntington, Charleston or some other urban area. Not so much if you live in the hills of WV, KY, VA, TN, etc... I realize streaming is the way of the future, but for the near term (certainly the next 10-15 years) we need to have a television presence.

well we won't have one, nor will the vast majority of the g5 and even the lower end p5 schools end up on largely streaming platforms.

I stream most things i watch, even church. Picture is excellent but i get 100 mill down. I use Amazon fire or Appletv. Both work great. Being 66 I remember having three channels and trying to watch the Lone Ranger with a white picture and sound. Now so many options.

Good for you! I'm 66 and a Tech Tard. :(.

So is this a page on Facebook that we can go ahead and like, bookmark or whatever so we can find it later?

Nevermind, I figured it out.

May I ask a really stupid question - and this only applies to those physically in the seats in the Joan. If you are watching the game in person why would you want to be watching on Facebook and commenting? Geez watch the game.

I haven't. Fill me in.

If you don't have a Facebook account, you will need one or to log in under someone's account. You can search that page and then hit like and follow so that you'll see it in the newsfeed. Apparently the games will air right on that Facebook page.

If you don't want to do all that, you can go to the post made by MU ATO, but you will still need to have an account or use one to access the page (almost certain of that).

Thanks for your time.

I get on here to see what channel the game is on and it's not. Why doesn't a local channel do the home games like they used to? It would get a lot of folks watching channel 3 this evening. Are they not allowed to do it anymore?
Sorry for my ignorance.

Yes, I was very pleased with the streaming quality. Of course, when it was on that sports website a couple years ago (can't remember the name) it was really good quality as well, but even the commentators did a nice job and they really gave us a lot of attention as the home team.

I was very pleased. But I had issues using google chrome cast, so I couldn't project it to my TV

I thought the broadcast was ok but nothing great. The stream maxed out at 480p and was not sharp. The graphics were 2nd rate. ESPN3 and beIN Sports do much better with the online streams. I was happy to be able to watch but the production and stream were not the best.

I watched it on my tv through the Facebook app on my Kindle Fire stick and thought the stream was super clear. Never once had a buffering problem. Loved it.

The commentators and the sideline reporter were of a high quality. Really professionally done. I was expecting something a lot less.

I just finished the video on Facebook. It was fine. Similar coverage to what you get on other internet feeds or small time TV networks like BEin, ASN (rip) , or even CBSSN. Fine, unspectacular, but fine.

The question I have is this whole thing looks like:
Collect underpants,
???,
Profit.
to me. I mean it is just free. Facebook is free, there were no commercials. So the announcers got paid something, the camera guys and techies in the truck go paid something, they rented the equipment from somebody.

I will enjoy it while it is there, but there seems to be no endgame here.

The game had over 10K viewers at one point. I may have missed it being higher than that.

The high was right before Alabama/FSU tipped off at ~12k.

Which all things being equal doesn't sound like a terrible number to me.

There's probably a ton more who would like to have watched, but do not have a Facebook account. I don't think you can access the stream without being logged in.

I watched the end of the game on my phone sitting inside Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa watching Iowa State play their home opener. My seatmate is a Western Michigan alum, and we were watching WMU give USC a run for their money as well.

It's a good time to be alive, when you can sit in a college football stadium in the middle of Iowa, and watch Marshall or Western Michigan, the same time you are watching a live game right in front of you.

There's a reason facebook is investing hundreds of millions (billions?) of dollars in new digital infrastructure right now.....the fastest subsea cable in the world (160 terabits/sec) is a partnership among fb, microsoft and telefonica and goes live his fall. The future is here, folks.

As with any technology, it may start out as a free service to get people on board, but I fear it will just become another paid service. I don't see where the revenue stream will come from with this "no advertisement," feature.

I will enjoy it while it lasts! Hopefully it becomes something insanely huge and we will always be the first game ever shown. We will be the "video killed the radio star" of the Facebook live streaming.

Is there anyway you can record the data sream from face book or any of the sreaming services and watch it later? Thanks

i don't know about recording it but it's still available to watch online
Thanks, I'll take a look.
Love going to the games!!
When I get home I like watching them again on the DVR. TV games are getting far few in between!
Hopefully, we will be able to replay the data stream from the game data provider in future games
