Stadium wrap

I think those banners have been a great addition. Dresses up the exterior and the concourses.

Look great, but also serves as weather impactor, others sure from coming in which is good and bad, depending on temps game day.

Wonderful Mike. Too bad they can't clean up and fix up the restrooms. Twenty-five years old now and in piss-poor (pun intended) condition. But MH has comfy toilet in the box. My bad!

Neutral, don't you know that the abysmal restroom facilities at the Joan and the HC are part of what Mike Hamrick perceives as the "total fan experience" aspect of Marshall Athletics!!

Any bashing aside, I'd love to see our next investment to modernize and widen the concourse.

Exactly. That is what WVU is currently doing for the next year or so: widening the stadium concourses, improving concession AND RESTROOM facilities, all with the goal to make the gameday experience better for those attending. At MU, if anything is done in that regard, it will probably be putting out a few more Porta Potties around the Joan.

yes Fever, but I bet if he has to take a sh!t he heads up to the box or the facilities building

Every time I visit Peden Stadium, I thank God for our "narrow concourses and pee-poor restrooms" ;)

We don't have it so bad compared to most other G-5 schools, just saying.

Me personally I wasn't complaining. I was just voicing what I hoped was the next step. We finally have some football facilities to be proud of, now we can focus on some updates to make the Joan top notch. ( dependent on $$ of course)

All of our new facilities are beautiful and makes us so proud. That being said why do we then just forget about maintaining them as years pass? I mean we got new turf last year and the players need that. But we the fans have every right to expect the facilities we use to be clean and modern as well. It is a little embarrassing when I have friends from other schools we play make the trip to Huntington either for football or basketball and go to the restrooms! All of you on here know that this is the truth so come Hamrick make this a number one priority for next year. Not to mention AC for the Henderson Center. With AC it could be used for so many other functions. JMO

I can't wait to see what you find about Hamrick to bitch about next.

Do you know how silly you sound? Have you send the new soccer stadium, practice facility, etc.? There have been a lot of quality things been done lately.

Sig, I was discussing the lack of certain upgrades at Edwards Stadium. For you, and other uninformed, the same soon to be rusted out troughs that are used for urination at the Joan are the same ones that I, and many others, used during the opening game against New Hampshire back when the stadium opened about a quarter century ago. The same thing can be said about the restroom facilities at the Henderson Center, which opened a decade earlier than the Joan.

No one is disputing the improvements that have been made, and I hope you and the other 100 or so fans enjoy the amenities at the Hoops Soccer Stadium this season. But I think that the vast majority of Herd fans with anything better that 20/400 vision and an IQ above that of a dandelion will agree that the fan amenities and necessities, like restrooms and concessions, in our two major revenue producing sports, have been neglected for too, too long by our administration(s), athletic and otherwise.

Please, by all means, step up and concoct a plan and execute it in terms of getting the bathrooms fixed. Raise the money yourself, and build it.
I mean, you act like a little baby when it comes to anything Marshall does because if it's not up to par by your standards, you declare it awful and complain (despite trying to mask the "good job Mike" stuff...cut the crap, you were just waiting for the next photo of something stadium related to moan on and on about).

Mike just spent $20 million on an IPF, academic center, hall of fame, and sports medicine complex...but you want to complain because you don't like the area where you pee in...

I'd love for you to do it all yourself, and we could name the crappers after you too...get a plaque with your name on it, possibly a picture of you or a toilet or a computer since those seem to be your superpowers...or you, sitting on a toilet with a laptop on your lap.

I mean really man, this thread was meant to show off a nice update on something...costing relatively nothing...and you have to go off on an 100 year old complaint that has seriously become so overused it's lost its meaning...about a topic entirely unrelated to a big photo of Byron and Chad.

Yeah, take your complaints to Mike, better yet, Doc, and then let him tell a recruit,
"Well we used to have a great idea for an IPF..."
"What happened coach?"
"We blew it all on the crappers in the stadium..."
"..."
"Which way to Florida State, coach?"

Let me ask, have you even written to Hamrick about this? I mean, does he even know? If you wrote the letter, did you sound as condescending as you do on here? If so, he probably used it for starter kindling and declared you a prick.

You know...you can go on the internet and formulate a petition, or at least a publicly written letter, and have everyone digitally sign it...enough signatures, he will read it.
Ever try that? Cause this complaining method...for all of you...just isn't working.

Oldeherd, how much did you kick in to the Vision Campaign? I don't mind the restrooms. I piss in a big metal box, it goes down a drain, I wash my hands and go back to the game. What do you want? Maybe a couch in the corner or maybe an attendant handing you a warm towel and a spritz of Old Spice?

I've been to a ton of stadiums for road games. I honestly can't tell you what the bathrooms are like in any of them. I used them, but didn't care enough to mentally record the details.

Yes you are disputing when you make a blanket statement like you did. I was at the opening game also, what is your point? You totally missed the point of the soccer stadium. And I am sorry that someone of your age cannot have a discussion without all the middle school attacks.

Banker, have contributed my share to the Vision campaign, I'm sure, and have been contributing to MU, and the Big Green, probably longer than you've been around. Too bad people like you are completely satisfied with the status quo. That mentality has been the main reason Huntington has gone from 85,000 plus to less than 50,000 in about 4 decades. Should be abundantly clear that there are things that need improved at the stadium and the Henderson Center that would be a positive in the overall fan experience and a factor to hopefully improve attendance overall. Again, no one is disputing the improvements that have been made such as softball facility, soccer stadium and the indoor practice facility and related facilities.

You didn't answer, what do you expect a bathroom designed to handle 100s of users at a time to look like? What bathroom amenities do you consider vital to the fan experience?

For starters, Banker, the troughs could easily be replaced with modern, low flow (efficient low water usage, or even waterless) urinals. You know, the kind that are more efficient and Less Costly (that should get Hamrick's attention). The same with the hand driers. All would enhance the restrooms and hopefully save MU some $$$. The same applies to the restrooms at the HC. Other point on fan experience would be the concession area and concourses. Hopefully in long run MU can expand the concourses and hopefully upgrade the quality and quantity of available concessions. Just one person's opinion. I realize that a lot of high roller Herd fans, bankers, etc., don't really give a hoot about this subject, since they spend most, if not all, of the game time celebrating each other at their tailgate sites!

You make it sound easy and cheap, but not the case. The trough requires two water sources and one drain as well as one vent. There's two per bathroom, not sure how many men's rooms there are in the stadium, but each men's room now can accommodate 15-20 guys taking a whiz at one time. To convert that, first you will be cutting capacity by about 25% due to spacing, so longer lines! which will make everyone happy! I'm sure.

If you get past capacity, we can look at cost. Let's say you can fit 15 urinals per restroom. They are a minimum of $200 a piece, so $3,000 per restroom, around $30,000 total. The bad part is buying the urinals is the cheap part of the project. You can't have all those urinals flowing into the same drain line, so you have to jackhammer up the floors to get to the sewage lines and install individual drains. Also, you need a separate water supply for each urinal and a separate vent line to meet code. That means busting up and redoing the concrete block walls. Oh, and since the University uses all prevailing wage labor, that means the work is done by the Plumbers and Pipe-fitters Union. A great group of guys, but not cheap.

My guess is you would have at least $300,000 in the project just so you can whiz in a urinal instead of a big metal funnel. I think better investments would be things like putting closed circuit TV in the concourse so you don't miss any of the game if you go for a coke or pretzel.

Oh, and I do love to tailgate, but I do that for 4 hours before the game. I'm inside from the opening kick to the final whistle.
