Everything about your post is wrong.Yeah, Thunderstruck is seriously played out. Especially since so many schools play it at some point during games. And even more so since the guys on the team likely have no idea who AC/DC is, and maybe 4 of them listen to rock.
I wonder how many VT fans feel this way about Enter Sandman lol.I’m sure I’m the odd man out on this one, but I personally despise “thunderstruck”. It was cool like the first 10 years I heard it play but I wouldn’t be against a intro change
Yeah because some fans think an AC/DC song which is played by at least 10 NCAA programs as there intro song since 1990 we are some how not loyal?Ok!?!? There is nothing wrong with change, that’s what makes programs grow. (Traditions are things unique to programs ex: turning the fountain off 14 Nov remembering fallen herd members)Its closed minded people like you who keep our program from growing. “Bush league” lmaoI wonder how many VT fans feel this way about Enter Sandman lol.
Posts like yours is why Marshall's gameday environment is bush league.
Remember, Marshall fans are just too cool to do anything remotely unique. Thunderclap? Invented reasons to not do it, now we have a generation of fans who don’t even know it was a unique to Marshall celebration. Country Roads? Act offended that our band plays it or even thinks about playing it (ignoring the far different arrangement, far more upbeat version our band played compared to others).
Even the We Are… Marshall chant? We have some fans who act embarrassed about the chant because they think we simply stole it from Penn State. They ignore the words to the school fight song, which makes the chant relevant and fitting here.
Marshall’s “too cool” attitude is partly why no one goes to games anymore, and why it’s hard to get engagement from the ones that do. Anything that gets a big response from the crowd, we’ve got somebody crying about how they refuse to do it.
It gets old after awhile. We need to bring back the Thunderclap and sell a sponsorship for it so that the scoreboard can display the sponsor logo while counting upward. It’s something that actually made people look at the scoreboard at the exact same time. Few things can do that. The band does not need to lead it… that wasn’t a bad idea but it just didn’t work, but instead of going back to what was tried and true, we simply stopped doing it all together.
Sorry, but Country Roads I associate with the ears. Growing up in the tri-state area (WV/OH) I do not recall really hearing that song, so my only familiarity goes back to those assholes in blue and yeller.Country Roads? Who cares what they do up North? Our band never featured the song. They don’t play it after games or even like an anthem. It was part of the pregame football set, and the basketball pep band played it.Sorry, but Country Roads I associate with the ears. Is it truly something that people from the Huntington area find endearing?
I agree, but I also think it's a shitty song. I mean, would you ever hear it playing on the radio and think, "turn that shit up man!"Look, I have no personal attachment to the song at all, but this is our state, too.
I think this says it all about are fanbase.... I saw one post where somebody said closing down 20th street and having fan activities was a nice thought, but didn't work so time to move on..... It was the first year for it!! Instead of quitting, why not figure out what went wrong and enhance it....Thank god I didn't have the attitude of MANY of our fans when it came to my personal business.Remember, Marshall fans are just too cool to do anything remotely unique. God, no. That is one of the dumbest ideas the school has ever had. Reminds me of a flock of overweight pelicans hopelessly flapping their wings in a futile effort to fly.We need to bring back the Thunderclap
The Thunderclap sucked and was a great example of Bush League. As for Country Roads,I would rather listen to static being blasted in the stadium.Remember, Marshall fans are just too cool to do anything remotely unique. Thunderclap? AC/DC has played out? hahahaa cThunderstruck. Yes, it is played out. The song came out in 1990. The band has faded into that nether land that old acts go to where they tell you its the same band, except all of the members have changed. There are plenty of other song with thunder, buffalo, wild west or other appropriate themes out there.
Country Roads. 10000 times no. The song was written about Massachusetts and the drug addict writer and the drug addict singer decided to "southernize" it picking West Virginia because of the number of syllables and picking geographic features out of a dictionary, none of which are really in WV. It is a perfect song for WVU. None of the New Jersites students know any better, nor do their non-alumni knuckle dragging fans.
We are too smart for it. We are their betters.
1-2 times before or even during the game is fine. Doing it for every single point is stupid. Do people want to do it 49 straight times…yeah, I think not. Something totally different like this Viking Clap could catch on though.Yeah, put it up the board and let those who want to participate do it. You aren’t forced to do anything.
I think wrong about the kids knowing who ac/dc isYeah, Thunderstruck is seriously played out. Especially since so many schools play it at some point during games. And even more so since the guys on the team likely have no idea who AC/DC is, and maybe 4 of them listen to rock.
Stupid.Thunderclap?
Perhaps they need to take their embarrassed asses home.Even the We Are… Marshall chant? We have some fans who act embarrassed about the chant because they think we simply stole it from Penn State.
What?Marshall’s “too cool” attitude is partly why no one goes to games anymore,
Same. Maybe it is me and that I have been to a bunch of their games (remember my old screenname, HerdFanInWVULand, that was just close by entertainment), but yeah that's a whole big thing there and they can have it. And I like John Denver lol.Sorry, but Country Roads I associate with the ears.
Dude, it is such a big thing there. No.The effort to blacklist the song was ridiculous.
AC/DC's members changed once. When Bon Scott died.Thunderstruck. Yes, it is played out. The song came out in 1990. The band has faded into that nether land that old acts go to where they tell you its the same band, except all of the members have changed
You are now even more dumb. Is that possible? Congrats.Country Roads. 10000 times no. The song was written about Massachusetts
I agree. I cringed when we first started doing that. It is some jazz hands shit.God, no. That is one of the dumbest ideas the school has ever had.
I'll give the UNCC PA kudos for the leading the first down and 3rd down chants. The fans were into it. But yeah we're too cool for something like that or the Thunderclap. Let's just play some inaudible rap music all game and listen to Toy and the PA guy do endless announcements and drivel. Here’s what has stood out this year:
-Video board calls for the We Are chant, DJ Herd that is blaring
-Band is playing, DJ Herd that on the video board
-3rd down——fans on their ass instead of cheering
The song is about Massachusetts. You are now even more dumb. Is that possible? Congrats.
Boomer? AC/DC goes across generations and is one of the best selling and recognizeable bands of all time. Cmon man. They are one of those bands.OK, boomer.
The song is about Massachusetts.
Original lyrics, with annotations to explain the non-sense in the WV version:
Almost Heaven, Massachusetts.
Adirondack mountains, broad Connecticut river (these things are actually in Massachusetts, unlike the things substituted, which are in Virginia)
Life is old there, older than the seas (seas are ancient, trees are not)
Stronger than the oceans, blowing up a breeze,
Country roads, take me home,
To the place, I belong,
Massachusetts, ocean freedom,
Take me home, country roads,
All my memories, gather around her,
Sailors lady, she is a stranger to blue water (reference is to a fisherman’s wife, who is a stranger to the “blue water” which is the deep water way off shore where he goes to fish, but she has not seen)
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky (another sea reference, sailors look at the sky for weather clues, mountain folk don’t care)
Misty taste of Schaefer’s, I’m having more than one (Schaefer, once the naming sponsor of the Patriot’s stadium, was the local beer in New England, back when that was a thing, and its slogan was “the one beer to have when you are having more than one”)
(Snippage)
I hear her voice in the morning hour she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away (Note the geography with the silly references to (barely) eastern panhandle places, the radio stations for a person traveling TO West Virginia in that region would be BEHIND him, in DC and Baltimore; in the original song it is a reference to 50kW clear channel WBZ Boston, which the driver is heading TOWARDS. )
(Snippage).
It is a phony song taken up by a phony school, neither of which have much to do with the actual state, as, as we all know, Marshall is the University of West Virginians. The non-alumni hill jack Spamite fans and the New Jersite yankee loser students can have it.
Uh huhOriginal lyrics,
i am - are you (gulp) asserting that Sammy is mistaken?? That just……..can’t……be!! Say it ain’t so, Real Sam C??The Story Behind John Denver’s ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’
John Denver’s ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’ was written by Billy Danoff and Taffy Nivert, who had actually never been to the state.www.countrythangdaily.com
How the hell would anyone sing these words together?Uh huh
Broad Connect-i-cut riiiiver! How the hell would anyone sing these words together?
Adirondack mountains, broad Connecticut river
hahhahaha
The song is about Massachusetts.

C'mon Geez, you're better than this...How can anyone write a song about Massachusetts
Those Ford dealers keep the ticket prices low, because lets not forget, MU fans are poor and can't afford to go to games.our coordination between the band, DJ and stadium music is terrible. They should feature the DJ before the game at halftime (a short set maybe)and after the game and let him engage the crowd. The band should have places where they are featured as well. The stadium music guy should control the "We Are chants" etc. Good Lord, cut down on some of the commercials. Nothing worse than scoring a big TD and cutting to Jason Toy thanking the Ford dealers or giving away some Wendy's coupons. That is when we play thunderstruck or some of the other famous songs to juice up the crowd.
