I'm not sure what intern they got to produce this image, but in the top side of the bracket, it shows the bye team as the winner of the prior game. Marshall should show as the bye team, not the winner of Ga State vs Winner game 3.
JMU choked away the 1 seed by losing @ Texas State last night in 2OT, so USA gets the #1 and the automatic NIT bid.
Herd with a likely matchup vs either Ga State, with whom we split our 2 games, 92-79 win on the road and the inexplicable 85-81 loss at home, or Ga Southern, which we beat 81-69 at home and 71-67 on the road. I don't see Coastal or Southern Miss (who has lost 8 straight) escaping either of the Ga teams.
If we get past our first game, we will have Ark State (who we beat 77-72 at home) waiting followed by USA (who beat us 91-82 in Alabama). I really wanted to avoid Troy and Texas State, and they both ended up on the other side with JMU, who we seem to match up well with.
I always believe that this style of tournament actually ends up rewarding lower seeds for a while by letting them get in a rhythm in an unfamiliar gym while the bye team ahead of them has to come out cold. I expect a tough game against one of the Georgia teams, but then I'd feel good about our chances against the next two, who we are closely matched with in talent. Not going to outright predict that we'll be in the final, but things seem to be clicking for the team right now and we have as good a chance as anyone on the top side of the bracket. I feel like the final on the other side of the bracket will be against Troy or Texas State, though Texas State would be on their 4th game by the time they play JMU, and the fourth game is when I feel like teams really start to wear down.
