Go back and try reading what I said again, which was that MSNBC had zero coverage of the ceremony and that CNN only had 58 seconds of coverage of the ceremony. If by "cover the ceremony" you meant "only the time they televised it live as it happened," you would have responded to my below quote differently:

"I don't know how much air time CNN gave it, but a quick look shows that they have had five different articles about it over the last eight days. That seems like quite a bit of coverage of it."

If you truly intended what you said you did, you would have said "I'm not talking about air time or overall coverage," I am talking about showing it live.

And your claim that your usage is correct, and I don't understand it, is extremely wrong.

Go ask a television reporter if their station is covering an event (a trial, a basketball game, etc.). "Cover," by no definition, means carrying it live. If they have a reporter there, they are covering it. By no means would they say "no, we aren't showing it live." You know that, I know that, and anyone in the television industry knows that . . . liar.
