According to the IRS purposes I am considered "self-employed" and taxed like an independent contractor (have to file a Schedule C, etc...).

Well received a letter in the mail today that I can no longer consider my healthcare costs as non-taxable income and cannot have it as a separate line item in my contract. It has to be moved over to the taxable/salary side of the ledger.

Garbage.

It doesn't matter what plan you are on. Whatever your contract sets aside for health care used to be in the non-taxable side with things like money for study leave, books, etc... but one of the changes that went into effect for the 2015 tax year is that medical insurance has to be treated like regular salary, which means I have to pay taxes on it.
