I would have run in unarmed to my local HS back when I knew a lot of the kids in there. Would probably still do it today even though my daughter has been out for 4 years. If I had a gun I would go in 100 out of 100 times.

There's nothing chickenshit about waiting for the cavalry when you are not equipped to challenge a shooter. If you are already standing next to the guy you have nothing to lose, go ahead and tackle him or knock him over the head with a chair, but to go in is beyond dumb and only adds to the body count. It's false bravado and shit talking, to say nothing about it takes away from a political point: there's three logical options here (make schools hardened targets, arm teachers, or enact stringent gun control), and unarmed people running into the line of fire is not one of them. I'd include some major changes to mental health care, but that's a different discussion IMO. Use the bully pulpit wisely, and not for throwing some bullshit out there...this time the political pressure is NOT going away, I can just sense that, it's time for some leadership.
Actually, Raoul, that's not true and you know it. School shooters aren't trained and are as juiced and generally unfocused as the people they are shooting at. They get tunnel vision and lack situational awareness. As long as you didn't run in right in front of them when you enter you actually have a tactical advantage. You are going to know where they are and which way they are moving. In the chaos with hundreds of people running around they can't see and track everything.
That's my theory and that's why I wouldn't hesitate to go in. That and I've had a pretty good life and believe those kids deserve a chance to do the same.

1)There was a resource office there. He was armed at least with a pistol. Was wearing a bullet proof vest and had radio communication to other officers and backup. He should have been the first line of defense and should have immediately helped evacuate and should have sot to engage the threat. That is his job and oath. He was a coward.
2)3 more officers showed up and took a defensive position outside the school behind cars. They were armed with a least a pistol and had at least shotguns in their cars.
3)Reports are coming in that they were ordered to not enter the building and they were told to put their body cams on and reports are they did not have them.
4)Another police department arrived on scened and were the first to enter the building.
So, it is evident that they have a training problem, a leadership problem, and a problem with cowardice.
Not to mention, they had multiple reasons to investigate the shooter.

Broward County sheriffs office protocol in an active shooter situation does NOT require confronting shooter. They can take a defensive position
Would you run into a burning building to try and save someone else's kids if you didn't have a fire hose? To me it's no different. I would actually consider it safer to run into an active shooter situation unarmed.
I read that the first cop in question was actually a female in sexual transition. S/he stated would loved to have rushed in, but sadly forgot to take her testosterone injection that day and therefore offered no competitive advantage over the shooter.
As a former firefighter, it depends on the situation. There are times you simply don't go in a structure, and there are times you are in and GTFO as well. And a SCBA would be more important than a hose.
FWIW, you ever notice firefighters don't actually run into fires? There's a reason for that.
