The future of Marshall Football

Well well well thanks to Doc the staff and our great fans who never gave up in demanding and believing that we could bring this program not only up to par but to sleeping GIANT.. We are now one of the best mid major programs in america. We are a top 25 program from here on out i predict. Anything more then a one loss season to me and other fans is a dissapointment and to have those expectations shows how far we have come as a program and fanbase. Yes maybe in reality to some fans more then one loss is acceptable but the point is for the first time in D1 football we can say we dont rebuild we reload.

Everyone should be ecstatic to be doing what were doing only Boise State in my lifetime has actually been a midmajor and kept to the level year in and year out of being recognized as a power. Well move over cause Marshalls here to stay. Another strong year in recruiting has us looking good for another 4 years. Last year we ended up getting a whole offense that was freshman and that was fast and elusive and got some big oline. This year we ended up getting a defense all freshman that had size and speed. Got a DE that looks like a beast and got some linebackers that have size and can run with wrs and we got alot of CBs that are going to be the best in the league for many years. Its time to get excited and most importantly be thankful that your living in the turning point of Marshalls rise to power...

Seeing the jump to D1 and watxhing that was special then seeing us dominate and go to Cusa was great now were at another turning point with us dominating and the thought of will we move to a bigger conference again is on the minds of alot of herds faithful.. Time will tell but i think something bigs gng to happen and im glad were all here to see whats it going to be.

Well Shady Tiger from Raleigh County...You know it and Marshall fans are believers again, however, our brand is no longer a household name like Boise. Why? ESPN is the measuring stick & the Train that drives the Engine. Until we can become a regular ESPN player....folks across America will say Marshall Who? Oh yeah...that team from the movie a few years ago!

Viewers in the 30 & under age bracket know little about "the team" that won more football games in America in the 1990's. Most would say....Alabama, Florida State, Oregon, or even ohio of columbus.

Im shocked and diappointed in your assessment of our team. I think we are right on boise's tail.Nobody says marshall who!!

well, we'll find just how well the stable of QBs have been developed (and do they have the goods?) while Cato was setting records. i'm sure they're aspiring to be like Cato, Leftwich, Pennington and others. However, i cringe when thinking of the dead years and the associated walking dead QBs. should i mention the development of a high-IQ center, as well? ok, after all my repetitive mumbo-jumbo, the supporting cast is absolutely there to continue success. bring on The Thundering Herd and none to soon

we can NOT become an ESPN regular since we play 8 games a year in C-USA. Fox has the first choice of CUSA games and CBS is #2. Have you noticed that Fox Sports 1 has nearly as many homes as ESPN?? I would imagine that the Marshall/Purdue game was moved to Sunday for a national broadcast on FS1. That I a home run. No NFL to compete with, no local midget games to compete with and at most 1 or 2 other college games that day.

I think Marshall has more football history than Boise. Boise is recently successful but 10 years prior, Marshall was successful.

I also believe ESPN would prefer us over them...if they could broadcast our games, they probably would.

Marshall has more notable players than Boise ever could. Can you name a single player from Boise in the NFL? I don't need to name ours (not to say they don't have NFL players, but nobody in their right mind could name them).

Marshall is also the only other mid-major who has really been in the spotlight before...ESPN wouldn't have to change much in order to talk about Marshall again, they already have.

In essence, Marshall's spotlight would be just as bright and probably more well known than Boise's...it was proven when ESPN had Cato on gameday...featured Randy Moss in their 30 for 30...and had multiple shoutouts to Marshall throughout the season...oh and the All Access on ESPNU: Marshall Football.
Boise was ranked as well, but merely discussed briefly, they haven't been able to generate the buzz Marshall has (and has done in the past) and likely won't if Marshall continues to be as successful.

twohandsonhiscrotch I am totally in awe. Do trolls like you spend your entire waking hours cruising around the internet? How do you find your way to boards like meaningless little ole Marshall's?

I can name one, George Iloka. But that's only because I'm a long-time Bengals fan. If not for that, I couldn't name one. Certainly you are correct that our guys have made a bigger impact in the NFL. :)

a couple of items stand out in comparison to Boise:
coaching hires; from the get-go, Boise has really never had a coach with a losing record and most of the longer tenured have/had excellent winning percentage. consistency. Marshall, not so much (once every 10-20 years won't cut it) and this is why Doc's long-term program building qualities are so very, very important and why, God forbid, it won't be necessary any time soon, the next hire is even more important

student enrollment; currently, Boise has roughly 22k students total, Marshall 14k. consistent growth as an institution? it may be fair to say that Marshall has more difficult barriers to hurdle (location, economics, you name it). i was surprised that endowments are about equal (how relevant, i don't know), but both are state institutions. greater private support than Marshall? can you imagine Marshall International U? aM I yoU

as far as name brand Marshall has world known sad and happy history, Boise has god awful blue grass but its eye catching nonetheless and smart marketing. the Herd may need a new marketing blitz (up the middle and from both ends, full bore, and right NOW)!

bless The Herd and Herd football! can't wait for the, no doubt, interesting 2015

The fact people are on here and trying to say Marshall is a better program then Boise is laughable actually hysterical

No Herd Fever....Marshall is not laughable....Marshall & her Sports programs have accomplished a "Lot with Less" forever. Marshall has faced an uphill battle & will always be climbing a tall summit because most of our State identifies with wvu. It is what it is.

Our football players mainly are recruited from Florida. Many Boise players hail from California. Boise is well know for taking Oklahoma behind the woodshed in an EPIC Bowl win and after the game their star QB drops to his knee & asked a pretty Cheerleader for her hand. Pretty epic stuff.....made for Hollywood.

We have never defeated a BRAND NAME school in a Bowl Game. Their Blue (annoying) Field has national recognition. We have the plane crash.

In the 90's Marshall was ahead of Boise. Money & national exposure moved them ahead of us. Sorta like..."What Have You Done For Us Lately?"

Our Beloved Marshall was set back with the untimely death of Dr. Stephen Kopp....a pioneer for Marshall for Academia & a strong supporter for HERD Sports.

I reside in a major city (Charlotte) that has a large, NEW C-USA member....Charlotte 49ers. Yet some on here find humor on attacking them (49ers) as non-contenders. My answer. MONEY, MONEY will elevate them to the top in a few years!

For those traveling to Charlotte, March 7 for the HERD-Charlotte basketball game...you will see first hand what they (Charlotte 49ers) have to offer their students & Athletes.

It was their RB, not QB. And she was a whore who cheated on him repeatedly throughout college. Make sure your Hollywood ending shows that.

They're still married seven years later so maybe they're swingers and he's into it. At any rate, you should be careful when battling Gary Sweeney not to become Gary Sweeney.
