Does Sunbelt have decent soccer?
Soccer.
CUSA, as it currently exists, assuming we haven’t blown it, has only one full member that plays soccer, FIU.
The Sun Belt no longer has soccer, but has three teams that play the sport, Coastal Carolina in CUSA, and Georgia Southern and Georgia State in the MAC. The NCAA requires 4 teams to qualify as a conference, Appalachian State dropped soccer after 2019. If the two Georgias return home (I assume that is required) that leaves the MAC at the 4 team minimum.
Newcomer to SBC ODU has soccer; theoretical newcomer MU is the defending national champions. Theoretical newcomer James Madison has soccer
CUSA has two “associate” members for soccer, because the SEC doesn’t play it. Kentucky and South Carolina. WVU, currently in the MAC, was scheduled to join next year. A theoretical SBC would be superior to the MAC, and to a new CUSA soccer (UConn, Liberty, FIU, UMass?) so no reason USC and UK would not join. WVU is apparently at our request, so why not?
So, theoretically, (assuming we haven’t blown it) :
Marshall (currently #2, defending national champions, 2 NCAA appearances)
James Madison (currently “also receiving votes”, 17 NCAA appearances)
Coastal Carolina (17 NCAA appearances)
Kentucky (currently #5, 11 NCAA appearances)
South Carolina (22 NCAA appearances)
Georgia Southern
Georgia State (4 NCAA appearances)
To which could be added:
WVU (currently “also receiving votes” , 11 NCAA appearances)
FIU (currently #17, 10 NCAA appearances, 9 Division II appearances, 2 Division II national championship)
