Yes, Marshall is losing a very good football coach. But more than that, Marshall is losing a great leader of young men.
Look at how clean his program has been. Look at the basically non-existent number of off-field issues he was able to maintain and how he was able to win with quality kids. Now, compare that to Doc, a guy who played a starter (Tiquan Lang) he knew was under federal investigation for major crimes. In fact, I was informed by somebody involved that Doc told Lang that he could still play as long as he cooperated with the FBI. That's one hell of a concession.
Then, of course, months later, Lang got arrested for DUI and gun possession, and Doc STILL kept him on the team!
Now, compare that to what Huff did in what was the biggest game of his career at the time. After Moten had the skirmish while trying to steal his interception ball, Huff suspended him for the entire game and suspended the other player involved for a half. Again, that was in what was Huff's biggest game of his coaching career at that point, and he still stood strong and kept his players accountable for something far, far less serious than what Doc allowed his players to get away with.
It's extremely disappointing that Spears and Bradley Smith didn't get this taken care of. Marshall and its football players are far worse off losing Huff than what is being discussed.
