TikTok Ban

Somebody explain to me like I'm 4 years old why the government wants to ban TikTok. I don't get it. Supposed to be a national threat. How? It is nothing but entertainment.

My theory is that a lot of people have made a lot of money off of the platform and the government, both sides, doesn't like that. It has nothing to do with it being a "national security threat", but more of a threat to the governments full intention of keeping little man down.

Someone tell me why I'm wrong and why a band music and do a fact.

1) It is a legit national security threat. The app collects data on your phone that it is not supposed to and China has direct access to that.

2) It spooked a lot of senators and representatives when pro-Gaza sentiment took over on there. It also spooked them when it ran pop ups telling people to call their rep about the TikTok ban.

3) Meta and Musk want to kick TikTok out so they can capture some of its users.

I read a lengthy article on this yesterday that changed my opinion. Sorry, it was 4 AM so I don’t have the link.

The app not only collects immense amounts of data on you it shouldn’t, because it is a Chinese business, by Chinese law it is required to share the data with the government.

The app knows where you are at all times, possibly even if you turn off location services.

The app algorithm can be manipulated to funnel content to you and restrict other content. So for example, if you want users to slowly become pro Hamas or communism or anything else, that’s the content you quietly and intentionally push to them.

The fact that our government was able to come together on this and the Supreme Court UNANIMOUSLY upheld it, makes me believe there is an actual concern.

I have sat in meetings why the Chinese tech and software companies are a national security threat.

Believe me, they are a national security threat.

At the end of the day I am an American and I am telling you they are a national security threat.

There's plenty of reasons to hate social media apps, but TikTok specifically deserves death. It's the cancer of apps.

Probably the most egregious examples of why it is bad were that it had a keylogger in its built in browser (which they promise they weren’t actually using lol) and that they were using it to track journalist’s locations to figure out who their sources were.
