“This is a moment that will be used over and over in North Korea’s propaganda as 'proof' that the American president defers to the North Korean military,” Lee said. “It will be treated as a military victory by the North Koreans.”

In a voice-over, North Korea's famous newsreader Ri Chun Hee said the size of the crowd was “unprecedented” for Singapore. (ALMOST AS BIG AS TRUMP YUUUUGE INAUGURATION)

The Wilson Center's Lee said that in the North Korean context, however, its symbolic value has to be considered. “It’s one more moment from a summit that essentially handed legitimacy and invaluable propaganda to Kim Jong Un and North Korea on a silver platter,” Lee said.

Holy fvck I can imagine the fall out if obama did this.

Trump returned the salute you stupid fvcks. The general rendered the salute, meaning he regards Trump as his superior.

Also, a salute shows you hold no arms against the other person. That's right in line with negotiating denuclearization.

“To no one’s surprise, North Korea used our President for their propaganda campaign," tweeted Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), calling it "nauseating" to see the salute after Trump had just bashed traditional U.S. allies days earlier over trade disputes at Group of Seven meeting.

That is called proper protocol you idiot

Proper protocol is to solute military leaders of communist countries? Military leaders that are most likely involved in terrible crimes and deaths of 10,000s of their own country men?? A nod probably would have been more appropriate. Good stuff though you got your Hannity marching orders locked down.

I know proper military protocol. The South Korean soldier rendered a salute first meaning he is the subordinate in terms of rank. Any military man would return the salute even to an "enemy" as part of proper protocol and respect for rank.

You moron.

Let me guess you also think McCain is a piece of shit for being taken prisoner. Good stuff.

Picking everything they possibly can apart to make themselves feel better about their issue: liberalism, it's a mental disorder.

I don’t see an issue with it personally considering how the General saluted first. What I think is hilarious is all the right wing media hacks, (Trump included) were beside themselves when Obama saluted with a cup of coffee in hand, and Trump himself commented on twitter when Obama bowed to a Saudi King and a Mexican President. As a reminder of this I posted the link.

wow! interesting article, I can't believe Sean, rove, huckleberry, rush, faux and all the rest gave trump
a pass. I would have thought they'd been all over that outrageous salute, especially given their outrage.
I wonder how they would have reacted if Clinton or Obama had done that. maybe they don't know about
the salute to a commy general yet.

Or, perhaps 90% of the population couldn't care less about who salutes who, when and where. Or is it could care less? Rifle????

Just goes to show the hyprocrisy played out in the political world and those that follow it

I think it’s more of half the population takes offense if not their candidate and the other half defends it if it is their candidate. Like I said hypocrisy at its finest.

The real take here is that it's part of the fact Trump did not prepare for the summit. Proper preparation would include understanding what and how NK uses as propaganda. It is a big deal? No. Does this kind of thing add up over time? Sure. It's not really different than being a businessman and understanding the culture of someone you are dealing with.

It would be worse to not salute back.

So you’re following the “Trump didn’t prepare for the summit” talking point too huh? Not surprising.

I guess Trump just had John Bolton whip up that set of documents they signed during lunch, right?

I do not agree with that, given NK's system and their expertise in propaganda and brainwashing.

As for another point.....I am curious...would you salute an Iraqi circa 2001? A Russian in the 80s? Maybe a Jap or a Kraut in WWII? Last I checked, NK is still at war with SK, and thus at war with the US.

I know for a fact they saluted each other during WWII, because I saw it on TV.

Often, Sergeant Schultz would salute Colonel Hogan. Hell, I think Colonel Klink even saluted Hogan a few times.

It it were Obama: "He should have flicked him off, screw those Communist bastards.
Since it was Trump: "He did the right thing, you do not disrespect violent Communist dictators that have zero tolerance for human rights."

The sad thing is that you really believe he didn’t prepare.

Well, lets see . . . we have cheeto himself stating that he didn't need to prepare much and it is more about attitude than preparing.

We have Time magazine (ya' know, the magazine that cheeto had fake covers made putting him on the front of it so that he could hang those fabrications in his golf clubhouses) quoting a senior administration official saying "he [cheeto] feels he doesn't need to [prepare]."

So, you're claiming that cheeto is once again being a huge liar along with a senior administration official.

There's this thing called photoshop available as a "program" for a thing they call a "computer". With this "program" you can make pictures of things that are not accurate. Hopefully NK doesn't know about this new technology or they could make all kinds of propaganda material.

Gen Norman Swarzkopf returned the salute of the Iraqi general when the Iraqis surrendered. I would as well.

It is common military protocol. It is really just second nature.

IF Trump did not return the salute it would have been used to say what a rude ass by not returning the salute. I do not see the big deal.

Yeah, that's the same software that your president used to fabricate magazine covers with him on the front just so he could hang them in his properties.

That's okay. Mi have a newspaper with the headline that I had the game winning hit in the 1976 World Series. Got it in Gatlinburg when I was 11.

At surrender is a whole different ballgame. If NK was actually finally surrendering the still active war I'd probably agree with you. While Trump may be CIF, he is not military and has no protocol on it. Presidents really didn't always salute our own troops until Reagan., which is fine.
