Upcoming football season

I say for this year start to combine G5 with P5 and watch the big boys sweat their a$$ off!

ESPN has a similar story up on its front page... Basically it sounds like the best case scenario is that all the states get on board with playing games in empty stadiums (TV only for fans), if the season is going to start on time... If not, then all hell breaks loose. The conferences could agree to shorten the season to league games only and start an 8-game regular season October 1. Or they could move the whole season back and start next February.

Though I would go to any event in Sept I know many won't. I would go along with playing 8 conference games beginning in October. Leave the schedule as it is starting with the first conference game. No OOC games

The season is 4 months away. We've been batting COVID for basically 3 months. Lots can happen. I still think we can have a full season with careful planning and diligence by all involved. If you're scared of getting the virus or have a compromised system, you shouldn't come. Stay home and get well.

I can see it now, The PITT game has been designated Marco mask night. The first 10K get a free Marco mask!

It will be interesting to see how they handle all the logistics of the season if there one. I would especially be interested to see how they would handle logistics on 11.14.20. Would they do a virtual remembrance like they did for the Fountain Ceremony? Would they have some sort of social distancing seating arrangements for attendees, key speakers, media outlets etc? Something to think about and something to look at for a Podcast.

Even with it being Pitt, You may have masks left over. A lot of people are going to shy away from crowds for a long time.
true. I know when talking to my fiance' about restaurants opening in WV in a few weeks, she made it perfectly clear she would NOT be going out to eat for quite some time. When I go out I don't wear gloves or a mask. When she goes out she wears it all

I don't think they will. Go to a Lowe's or Home Depot on the weekend. It's packed. IF there are no restrictions put on sporting or live events you'll see business as usual. Especially with the good teams that always draw like Ohio State, Bama, OU, LSU and the like. Now a team that is in our position where there is no excitement surrounding the program people may way their options a little more. The virus will just become the excuse that people will use to not go to the game and one you really can't question.

The one thing about playing in empty stadiums is that Marshall plays their worst football in dead stadiums. We'll show out in front of big crowds, but you put us on an empty stadium (MTSU on a weeknight), especially on the road, and we'll play some of the most uninspired football you will ever watch.

I'd caution against using Lowes or Home Depot as proof of anything. Hell, I've been to Lowe's probably 10 times over the past six weeks and I usually don't go more than five times/year. People are bored and are doing a lot of yard work. If/when large gatherings are approved this year I think A LOT of people will take a wait and see approach and stay away for quite awhile.

I would venture a guess that you guys aren't going to have to worry about planning mask giveaway night... Because I don't think fans in stadiums is going to happen. If we are fortunate, we will get to watch the Herd on whatever streaming service or TV network is showing us against ECU.

You may be right. I would think that CUSA teams and most G5 schools would just call off the season as opposed to play in empty stadiums. To do that you still have all the travel and costs to run a program and no revenue coming in. That would break most schools in our and other G5 leagues

I would assume a challenge would be in the states. I would assume the Gov would determine if they can play. So if you are playing a team from Georgia it is a go, Michigan no. Just my thoughts

This is very possible, but even the states that are "reopening" and allowing upcoming sporting events are only doing so with no fans through July already... Nascar in SC, NC, FL and GA. The PGA tour in multiple states.

And if it comes down to the states decisions, it will be an absolute train wreck come August... Imagine trying to have a football season if say California, Washington, New York, New Jersey, Michigan and Illinois aren't allowing games to be played? If 20 percent of the FBS teams aren't going to be able to play, think of the scheduling havoc.

No matter what happens, its going to be an interesting and unprecedented fall.

We have been battling Covid since January but it was only made known to the public how serious this is since the end of February.

HM, the mask isn't just to protect yourself...in fact the primary reason is so you won't unknowningly infect others. Covid symptoms doesn't show until 1-2 weeks after infection and people without symptoms are contagious. Some (even seniors) never develop symptoms but still are spreaders via speech, coughing, sneezing, singing & cheering. Masks do a very good job of knocking the virus-carrying droplets down and greatly reducing the range of any thing you spray.

If rules for attendance are set & followed, there can be a CFB stadium with people in the stands cheering. The rules would include limiting the attendance, checking temperatures at the entrances and wearing face coverings.

I can see NCAA football games; Students only. Then opening it up to general public early October.

Well, particularly this season, the OOC schedule, especially the 2 home games, is by far the most attractive draw. Unlikely Herd fans will see the likes of Boise and Pitt at the Joan in the same season any time soon after this season. Better CUSA opponents like WKU and LA Tech on the road also. Playing only CUSA teams won't inspire many people to drive across town for the games, much less make any kind of trip from distance.

Of course, if it was 100 per cent guaranteed in advance that this year's games were to be Doc's last as the Herd's HC, maybe another dozen or so fans will show up!!
