That is what is being reported. Civilian and uniformed persons. The cuts will be deep enough that I have also heard that the Army may announce that West Point graduates may no longer be guaranteed active duty slots. Other branches will have cuts as well and reduction in force and budgets.

Hey, welcome to Jimmy Carter II. Somebody is going to have a mess to fix.

This country is going to look back and say that we wish we would have stopped Islamic militants. Somebody is going to inherit a mess and the you know who knows it but doesn't want to deal with it.

This came out the same day the FBI director said ISIS can't be held off forever.

Are you stupid? The military ramped up troop size for W's wars. Now it is time to cut back, just as the military had planned.

76, are you really surprised at that? ISIS isn't a thing as much as an idea...and ideas spread faster than things, and can't be killed. Short of killing every Muslim, no you can't hold off Islamic terrorism forever.

Me stupid?

The U.S. Army announced that it is cutting 40,000 troops over the next two years, leaving only 450,000 of active duty troops, the lowest number since before the U.S. entered World War II.

This is more than a pre 9/11 cut. Read above.

Wait, can't have the military when we have pay loser to do nothing all day. We are at dangerous levels and Obama knows ISIS is a problem. He just isn't going to do anything about it. He knows there are other problems as well. You can cut, we get it. Not that far.

Please proof read what you wrote??

450k is pretty stable with post-Cold War numbers. A little lower, yes. But how much shit does the Army now outsource? Do they even have cooks and clerks anymore?

Marines have stayed stable over the years, the Navy and the Air Force have gotten smaller for obvious reasons (technology has changed).

The Marines are cutting back as well. All branches are. Yes, they have cooks and clerks, but most of the cooks and clerks who are uniformed are assigned to specific units and not a post duty.

Outsourcing is part of the problem. We pay a guy 80K to do the same job an E6 would do for 45K. MPs don't work vehicle check points on our domestic bases so we're paying twice as much than an E4 would make for the same job. Overseas it's even worse. A crane operator makes 120k, and crane operators in the army top out at E5/6. The same people hang up their uniform and triple their salary. That's what the individuals are pulling in, not including what we pay the contractor they work for.

Yep. I know guys that went from making 60-80k in uniform to making 200 large.

That's weird. I've been told that businesses and corporations pay their employees peanuts because the greedy executives or those that own the businesses hoard all the cash for themselves. Who knew you could make more $$ in the private sector???

LOL, you think Obama's happy about American oil? The liberals hate it all and have fought it all the way. Whatever has been done to get our own oil has been in spite of Obama and his ilk, not because of him.

They hate this "cheap" gas and everybody polluting the planet now with their sardine can cars they stuck us in. They wanted $5 gas and a bike rack on every street corner.

Well, wasn't he the guy who said he rode his bike to work and washed his clothes only in cold water? He's a hippie stinking up the office. We had one of those at work, until she ran off with her bull dyke and moved to San Diego.

I'll never forget it when I heard she got pregnant. That's back when people still talked to me. Anyhow I said, "What the hell did she do, cheat on her woman?" They told me it was some kind of turkey baster at a clinic. Yeah, welcome out of the holler for damn sure on that one.

But she was a hippie. Reeked of weird smells. Didn't really smell like B.O., but hell who knows? I sure as hell wasn't gonna ask.

We had the same thing where I work. Two women and they used the turkey baster to get one of them pregnant. I thought maybe they paid some college kid to bed her. Nope, they went to a clinic.Craziest conversations at work sometimes.

Profiting off the military tit is hardly private enterprise. "Here's your SuperPAC money, you start a war, and give us ten billion."

The contracting shit was out of control in Iraq. And proof we need a draft...not even neccesairly for battle troops, but Jesus you can draft cooks, equpiment operators, etc.

Don't get me started on the briefcases of cash. That's a whole other crazy story.

I laughed when I read this. That sh!t is crazy over there, and the cash is flowing both ways. After a decade and a half of war there's allot of loose floor boards with retirement funds stuffed underneath.

Herdman... Take your head out of the sand... There is an energy revolution going on in this Nation.... Then again... Why let facts get in the way of your hyperbole... LOL...

How funny it is to see the same Dems who mocked "drill baby drill", denounced the idea that drilling for oil here "would not lower energy prices" and was "unnecessary", now celebrate "energy independence" (of course after Bush gave his "oil buddy's" incentives to expand their technology in order to get to and produce the oil and gas over the last 5-6 years.)

Pretty funny considering they have to abandon their tree hugging utopia of everybody riding the bus.

Looks like we're still all about polluting the world and showing off how much better we are than bums by driving around in our cars alone while they pile into stinking ass public transportation.

If we could keep the bums and the spooks off of public transportation, would you use it? What if it were a world-class rail system and subway?

Not if I had a choice. People would still be on it. Being in close proximity to people at all is an unpleasant experience for me. Another thing I'm glad I didn't know would be permanent when I was 16 or I'd have settled for minimum wage.

A whiff of an alternative to oil, and gas prices go down. Now, I like cheap gas.....and happy to see the free market offering a choice.

outside of NYC, DC, Chicago, and the NE corridor rail...public transit (specifically subway, rail) are tax payer boondoggle projects with little convenience to those who claim to want it available. Even with the number of people using NYC system, how many times have they been on the verge of bankruptcy because of mismanagement?

yeah right. It has nothing to do with the available glut of it on the world market. And more coming because OPEC is attempting to put US producers underwater by pumping more, along with Iran preparing to dump a few more million barrels a day (once Obummer signs the deal that allows them to get nukes). Another funny irony here....remember the days when libs were screaming the world was running out of oil?

Raleigh...come to the Chicago burbs....drive into and back from the city during rush hour....then, the next day take an express Metra for the same route. Let's not even consider the $20 it would cost to park your car while there. My guess is you'd discover pretty quickly the real service public transportation provides to commuters.

Oddly though, it didn't use to be that way. Privately-owned mass transit was profitable in many cities, until urban sprawl made it damn near impossible.

Price of gas hits $4 a gallon.....more EVs are sold. That's a cold, hard fact. The range of EVs just keeps getting better and better. It's still a new and developing technology.

Conversely, price of gas goes below $3....trucks and SUVs become popular again. It ain't rocket surgery.

EV's are not the cause of gasoline dropping. There are not enough EV's being sold that justify the price coming down the way it did around the world...........There are only 740000 of these cars WORLDWIDE. A miniscule number when you factor in the number of gasoline powered cars that will begin to be bought by the new Chinese consumer.

The US production boom alone has tipped the scales and allowed the US to compete again in the world oil/refined oil market.

I agree. However, "a family of 4" decided they didn't want to live on top of each other or their neighbors in 650 sq ft apartments. Who can blame them?

There just simply isn't enough population density in most metro areas to justify mass transit rail. Charlotte NC is spending billions on a new system. Raleigh has spend hundreds of millions "studying" the feasibility as well as buying land to build one in the coming years. Its a total waste of tax payer $$$ and resources IMO.

Los Angeles is a prime example of the frivolous waste involved. Nobody rides it. They just are not convenient. Who the hell wants to drive 20-30 minutes to a station, in order to catch another 20+ min train ride, which then may require you to bus stop 15-20 mins to your office? A 40-45 min car commute just turned into 1.5 hours each way (if you are lucky). If it doesn't work in cities with 8 mil people like LA, thinking it will work in a city with 600k or fewer is absurd.
