If you haven't read about this year's venue you'll be in for a treat. This course is different. One and eighteen alternates pars. They both can play as a par 4 or par 5. One of the par threes has two tee boxes...one that plays uphill and one that plays downhill rendering it two different holes.

This is going to be a tough test of golf. The players grumble but I love to watch the best struggle. I can't wait.

An article on Chambers Bay...http://www.foxsports.com/golf/story/chambers-bay-2015-u-s-open-course-changes-042715

If there's any wind (from what I've read, there doesn't seem to be a lot of wind most links courses) it'll be brutal.

It is a shitty venue for the US Open. Most people would agree. Bad for spectators and the US Open is not about Links style golf. That is the British Open. Uneven tee boxes? That is a gimmick. Alternating par for holes 1, 18? That is goofy golf.

Oh come on...you have a problem with them hitting through that windmill on one hole?

In all seriousness...other than being set up to be challenging, I don't think there's any written code on how a U.S. open course should be. This course will have thick roughs and lies that will challange if they get too far off the path. If the rain continues to hold off like it has this course is going to be firm and fast. I like the different look.

Firm and fast for sure, the USGA and Mike Davis have had to really make it a tougher course than normal because the wind doesn't traditionally blow much at CB as you kind of need/expect on links courses. So, if one day the wind is howling it will be brutal out there.

I love links style courses, but I kind of get the whole US Open on a links style course is silly thing, largely because they'll turn around to play another major on a links course in a month and 3 of the next 4 US Opens are at links style courses (CB, Erin Hills, and Shinnecock).

The roughs are going to be brutal, you have to hit the fairway, I think Mike Davis said a guy couldn't show up the week of the tournament, play a couple practice rounds, and expect to win.

Widest fairways in US Open history.......Greens are crazy though. Going to see some interesting shots, good and bad.

One of the worst courses ever for spectators but it's going to look awesome on TV.

As always, it's going to come down to what they do with the greens. If they get too firm and fast, the tournament could be a disaster.

a few of them are wider than normal, like #13 (100+ yards wide, but on a severe angle). the usga did go in and add some bunkers to reduce the fairway width in the landing areas, on 18 the usga went in and added a 10 foot deep bunker (with stairs down into it) right in the middle of the landing area.

I read where on one fairway (#13 I think) that the slope is so severe that you can hit it on the right side and end up off the first cut on the left.

They just reported on PGA Radio that the greens are already "begging for water".

Uh oh...........

Hopefully they don't go overboard and make it total goofy golf.......Davis has a very good reputation for making the courses playable.

Never been a fan of links courses. Just never saw the appeal. That said, it will be a very tough test for them.

I love links courses, but with the US Open at CB, The Open Championship at St. Andrews, and the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits this year, that's kind of links overload for me. Also, with CB, Erin Hills, and Shinnecock over the next 4 years at the US Open, that's a lot of links style courses for the US championship.
