Just keeps getting better and better.

Gundy of Oklahoma State turned down Tennessee...twice now.

If he accepted, the pay would've been $42 million over 6 years!!!!!

He rejected that offer and will continue to be 2nd Fiddle in the Big 10 Orchestra.

Tennessee apparently has reached out to Jeff Brohm, yes, that Brohm, who did okay at the school of chickens, Purdue (I know the spelling is different).

But the kicker from all of this? This tweet and who tweeted it.

This goes to show, perhaps there really was some truly bad stuff behind the scenes going on at Tennessee.

I also would like to add...

Brohm hasn't jumped on the offer yet. I know he won't command a $7 million figure salary but the mere fact he's still not said anything...makes one wonder how bad this is when a football coach chooses Purdue over Tennessee.

Tennessee is becoming dysfunctional. This is a school with no excuses. Fairly large state, State U with all the casual non-alumni fans, statewide following (despite a non-central location), unlimited $$, SEC TV money, huge stadium, wealthy state, good recruiting base, large and diverse enough school to hide academic risks in cupcake majors, no excuses. And it has not had a coach it liked since Fulmer, and in fact, Fulmer had worn out his welcome at the end a little, despite winning the national championship.

Which brings us to Brohm. Really? A desciple of Pertrino and his outlaw Louisville program. He has a total of FOUR years as a head coach. And a total of THREE years involved in true major football in any capacity (two as an assistant at Big 10 bottom feeder Illinois, and now one as HC at equally hapless Purdue, the rest of his time was with Louisville when it was in the mid-major "Big" East, and varrious CUSA schools). Really? With outlaw Pertrino's recruits he went 8-5, 12-2, and 10-3, that is nice, but not really spectacular. Then he has gone 6-6 at Purdue, beating exactly two teams with winning records, MACer Ohio U. and 7-5 Iowa. Wow. Really? Can this guy recruit? Who knows, his players have not played yet, and in event NOT ONE kid at WKU or Purdue is good enough to play in the SEC.

Tennessee, if this Brohm character is not the real deal, or if he is as dirty as his mentor and gets them on probation, could end up with a wandering in the wilderness for a decade or more.

Gundy's alma mater is Oklahoma St, he is one of the best HCs they have ever had, and they have one of the best programs in the Big-12. Why the hell would he leave that situation for that garbage in Knoxville? He has plenty of money, so why does that makes sense?

Depends on his personal goals. The purpose of the Little 8 is to provide fodder for the Big 2. Yes, Texas's previous idiotic hiring of Strong has kept it from working out that way, but in the long run, that is the deal. Eventually Texas will get it right, OU already has. So, if he wants, at age 50, to spend the next 10-15 years beating Texas or Oklahoma every 4 or 5 years and living off "remember that year (a year where UT and OU were both way down, which will happen about every 10th year) we won the Big 12 (sic) and went to the Fiesta Bowl and were 5th or so nationally", then by all means stay at OSU. He will make millions of $$, and that fanbase will be happy with that, and OSU easily could be no worse than 5th in that woeful league. He can retire and get a statue and a building named for him.

But, if he wants, at age 50, to see if he can win a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, then he needs to be at a place that can happen. The Little 8 is not that. Does he want to see if he can make it at the Big Time? Try his hand in the Greatest Conference? See if he will be remembered after his time by all football fans, or by folks in Stillwater, OK?

I don't know the guy. But it is the same discussion as to why some people join the Marines, some people get PhD s in hard sciences, some people go to flight school, and so on. And some people are just fine doing that 9-5 thing and keeping their family happy. Neither is wrong. But as Flair says to be the man, you have to beat the man. And the man ain't in the Big 12.

Because he is going to have a tougher path to the CFP with OSU.
He has also, recently, had a bit of bad blood with the OSU AD regarding facilities.

At UT, he has a blank check and the best facilities in a solid SEC recruiting state.

Also, he is 2-10 against Oklahoma as a coach...

Just Stop, Petrino was at WKU for 1 season and who was the chief recruiter for the majority of those Recruits the 10 months Petrino was at WKU........Jeff Brohm

Oklahoma State is the program that started this whole Facilities Arms Race

They will also end up being outspent. Not to say they do not have money, but they are next to the 2 biggest spenders in college football, if not spenders, money cashcows at least.

But for Gundy to be crying about Facilities just sounds like a spoiled child. What more do they honestly need?

I understand more money for Assistant Coaches and Support staff, Recruiting Budget, Travel Budget. But Facilities.......COME ON MAN!!!!

And? Recruiting players good enough to play at WKU (or Purdue) means beating out Marshall, Middle, or Appy State for a kid (or Illinois, Indiana, or WVU. Recruiting at Tennessee, means taking on Alabama, LSU, and Auburn for kids. Totally different.

In any event, it looks like Little Orange has moved on to the craziest man in college football, certified evil genius Mike Leach. Leach has done well, and drawn great attention to himself and his insane press conferences (my favorite was the one about wedding invitations) at out of the way field filler stops like Texas Tech and Washington State. In the limelight of the SEC, it will be an awesome thing to behold. Finebaum mush be chomping at the bit.

Word out of Rocky Top is John Currie the AD was fired this morning after Leach turned them down....local newspaper there reporting it....LOL

This clears the way for Fat Phil Fulmer to be AD or de facto AD. But they are running out of names to be HC. Sumlin? DickRod? Lame?

Not with T Boone Pickens in their back pocket. He'll spend until they win big.

Not the best X’s and O’s guy but he has a good reputation with recruiting and schmoozing boosters. Fuente from VT also being mentioned.

OSU - T. Boone Pickens is 89 and just put his ranch up for sale.

FSU - FSU would make a huge mistake with Taggart. FSU, tucked in an out of the beaten path part of Florida, cannot really afford to make mistakes. Before Bowden got there they were not really a major program.

UM - NCAA throws the book at Ole Miss. And the chief crook? Why, none other than Lame Kiffen's baby brother, now Lame's assistant, who gets a 2 year ban from recruiting. When the NCAA catches up with Lame and FAU, CUSA should be prepared to cut the school loose.

UT - New AD? Fat Phil Fulmer. Next coach? WTF knows.

TAMU - The, according to USA Today, most profitable program in all the NCAA, best of everything. Has hire savior coach after savior coach. Amazing fan base. First class facilities. Best. Never acomplished squat.

You are not going to win a national championship at Oklahoma State. You can at Tennessee.

HA you are not winning one at Tennessee either. They haven't been relevant since 1998

Actually Sumlin or Les Miles would be a better choice. Taggart just has the Florida Connections

That's a ridiculous statement.
No it is not. Until the last few years Tenn was likely a Top 10 job in America. They have a mess but historically they are a top job in a top conference. They have 6 national titles and 13 SEC championships The right person with their resources once it gets cleaned up can do very well.

You forgot something. All Leach does is win wherever he goes.

Fulmer actually orchestrated the firing behind the scenes along with Peyton Manning. Fulmer is as crooked as they come, and has the Fulmer Cup or trophy for most players arrested named after him for a reason.
