UTSA has woefully underperformed with all of the talent that they have. They have the best QB in the league, big and athletic WRs, yet their offense struggled.

every situation is different. Not familiar with utsa, but if the HC needs to win to maintain his job, and needs to show the AD he's willing to make changes, then he will do so. Then there's situations where the AD is in bed with the HC, and it just doesn't matter what transpires. In other words, the HC isn't in fear of being canned, and likely looks forward to another contract extension, regardless of onfield performance, player retention rates, Fulmer Cup results, etc.
Actually, Doc and the entire staff knew that if they did not win at least 6 games this season, they were canned at the end of the season. Absolutely no joke on that.

Considering where we were just a year ago, its not an unrealistic notion. Also he beat Cincy and held up decently well against NC State.
Fair point, but my rebuttal to that would be we never should have been 3-9 last year. I don’t think you deserve credit for doing better the next year from a year you completely blew. We played a schedule that had 8 teams in it that were ranked in the Sagarin 100s. We gave up 60 points to a sub 500 MAC team. We had two of the worst losses in Joan Edwards Stadium history and they were put on us by 2 fellow G5’s. One being our biggest rival in our conference. Just my .02
Come on man...Cincy won 4 games for John Marshall's sake.....Austin Peay, CRYami (Ohio), Tulane & UConn by 1 point each. Now, you should be embarrassed to throw out the Bearcats as a BIG win for The HERD.
We were where we were in 2016...BECAUSE the TEAM QUIT on our coaches and reported quit on Chase......nothing more---nothing less!

Oh, I agree, no excuse for losing and going 3-9, but to have recovered so quickly, and beaten teams who beat us handily the year before, is something you can't ignore.
At the time, nobody would have thought Marshall would win that game. Doesn't matter if Cincy isn't good or not. That was a good win and the best game MU had played all season thus far.
Marshall went from quitting in 2016 to not quitting in 2017 and it has made a bigger than expected turnaround.

I buy into your comments. I had concerns [going forward] when I watched The HERD defeat a poor Charlotte team by 14-3. Coach Lambert (Charlotte) may not last through the week. The HERD players are disappointed more than the fans.....but to only win 1 out of the last 5 games....is concerning to all. Standing at 6-1....players and fans were thinking of hosting the CUSA Championship Game. That is the bitter pill to have to swallow. Add to fact...one (1) football Championship in 8 years...3 wins in 2016.....and your head coach gets a raise last Summer!
