We are safe ( lol) Holliday not listed as a target

FSU made a huge mistake in hiring Willie T to begin with as he was nowhere near experienced enough to handle a program with their history and expectations. Will be an interesting position to fill then again if offered why not give it a shot , whats the worst that can happen , they fire you after two years and pay you a boatload of $$ to go away.

.

For years, I have posted about him being overrated, but that comment is absurd.

The guy had been an FBS head coach for eight years prior to getting the FSU gig, and he has had a very natural progression in climbing different levels (WKU to USF to Oregon to FSU). Besides being an FBS head coach for eight years, including at the P5 level, he also spent three years as an assistant coach at Stanford.

He definitely had the coaching experience and natural progression for the position, but he just isn't that good of a head coach.

And those schools have won how many national titles vs the number of national titles won by FSU. Overall mindset is totally different at FSU than WKU USF Oregon and Stanford.

While he may have coached at the noted schools it's a totally different ball game at FSU.

Not arguing nor trying to argue about it but he was not ready for the likes of Florida State and there expectations and alumni.

It did matter who they hired after Jimbo. The team especially the offensive and defensive lines were terrible. They barely became bowl eligible the year he left. It's pretty much the same players Jimbo recruited. Taggart last a year and a half.

I distinctly remember you calling FSU out for this hire when it happened. We liked the hire at first because he seemed to succeed with lesser-type teams so maybe he could do more with the recruits at a bigger school. It was mentioned on our board that boosters were done with him early into his first season. His lack of in-game adjustments and deer-in-the-headlights look during the game was obvious to many of us.

Think about the recruiting, his 1st class is this years team. He's basically playing with Jimbo's recruits. Some of my son's friends are freshman at FSU and they were recruited by Jimbo's staff. The team wasn't that great when Jimbo left. I think he should have stayed at Oregon.

The “guy they should have hired after Jimbo” was Jimbo. As with Michigan and Nebraska, among others, there are two lessons here.

- Firing a winning coach because “10-3 is not acceptable” is idiocy. FSU alienated and abused Fisher and ran him off, as Nebraska has with a half dozen coaches, and Michigan did with Lloyd Carr.

- Success in the mid-major level, the old Leastleftovers (Dick Rod) and the non-thing AAC (Taggart), does not always translate to the True Majors.

Leach, Huepel, and Kiffen also being thrown around on the FSU message boards.

No disrespect intended at all, but man FSU looks like a tough fandom these days. Those aren't the best candidates, but it might be all they can do at this time. That job is toxic to many, I think, because Fisher left a mess, Taggart made it messier, and now its just in free-fall.

The only people suggesting Lane Kiffen for a P5 job are people who haven't really watched him at the G5 level. They're taking anybody they can get their hands on, regardless of behavioral/academic history, and FAU is still trash.

You're so full of it... Florida State didn't run him off. You're also the guy who says WVU ran off Bobby Bowden, which is total nonsense. Do you ever attempt to say anything factual, or are you just the super fan who says whatever and people just accept it. You're like Ace Ventura when he meets Dan Marino with all the stuff he wants him to sign. Kind of like a mentally retarded person- people just smile and nod when they spout gibberish

Yeah, I'm sure that his 10 year/$75 million offer from Texas A&M (which is in the best conference in the country and has, possibly, the best overall athletic facilities) and the fact that his ex-wife still lived in town after she had been caught banging a former Gators player AND an FSU women's tennis team manager had nothing to do with it.

Sammy continues to be clueless.

PLEASE hire Leach. He/We deserve to have that man coach a top team that actually gets national exposure. He is way too much of a treasure to be stuck out in the middle of nowhere.

He's a deplorable. Keep him in the sticks where he can't influence many others.

Taggart's lack of success had absolutely nothing to do with him not being ready for the likes of high expectations of alumni or FSU's history of winning. Oregon has had a pretty damn good 25 years of winning, and Taggart wasn't out of place there.

The issue is that he just isn't that good of a head coach, and his lack of success has absolutely nothing to do with him not being able to handle alumni expectations.

Yes, he took over most of the programs after they had been struggling, but he had an overall losing record at WKU, and overall losing record at USF, an overall losing record at FSU, and went 7-6 in his one year at Oregon.

As someone who hasn't been here a relatively long time, does he ever actually account for his BS? Or does he just spout it off and move on, pretending no one called him out for his naive rants of nonsense?

Are you talking about FSU or Marshall?

other then UCF recently the Florida schools have not won big like in the past, just like at Marshall you have to be aware not to recruit an entire team of attitudes. I know the talking heads have been discussing that FSU is out of control from a player behavior stand point

Cristrobol seems like the best choice IF they can make it happen. Wouldn't be shocked to see Fickell go there. I don't think Franklin would leave PSU. Not sure if Harsen would leave Boise for another good pay increase. The headaches are plenty.

I actually think its going to be Franklin if its not Campbell. I think they will get the money needed to make it too appealing for Franklin to turn it down. I think Campbell is their first choice but they would end up paying more to Franklin

The real problem is the athletic department is in shambles so to speak. The president and the AD may both be retiring. Not too many coaches will want to jump into that situation.

A lot of Bob Stoops talk on the Tallahassee sports talk radio show.

Sports talk radio and internet message boards automatically gravitate to the one to three fake retired coaches that are out there each year when stuff like this happens, which would be Bob Stoops and meltdown causing Urban Meyer; whoever is “over-achieving” at some mid-major, or at this level, even a “lesser” team in a true major; and odd home town hero angles (what are the Bowden brothers doing these days?).

The Stoops that looks interesting is brother Mark. UK was 10-3 last year. At 4-4 with a I-AA and three mediocre at best teams left (Tennessee, Vandy, and Loserville) it seems certain to go to its 4th straight bowl after last year’s best in a generation 10-3. How much more can you do at UK?

The logic with Bob is that he’s currently out of college football. It’s gonna be tough getting a current head coach with the early signing period and any decent coach that has their team in a position to succeed will want to finish out the current season.

Mark Stoops buyout is 22 M...

Can't believe John isn't on the short list. Probably just trying to keep his name on the DL lest other schools jump in and a bidding war ensues.
Doc is too old to be considered for a top job and will be retiring soon. Maybe 5 years ago he might have gotten a look because of his recruiting ties in FL, but not now due to age and not having the resume or reputation. One thing is for sure, he would be an upgrade over the guy they just fired.

My guess would be Norvell, Fickell, or a Clemson assistant.

At halftime of a sistersville and paden city pop Warner football game I remember them announcing that Bobby Bowden was leaving WV. I remember fans from both sides cheering wildly. He was not run off but people had turned against him. Dad told me on the way home WV fans would regret him leaving.
