Most of us have been depressed over yet another less than stellar basketball season. Is there ever going to be a light at the end of the dark tunnel? You never can tell.

Sitting here last night, I was thinking about NCAA DIv 1 teams that had won a national basketball championship. According to my quick research, Marshall, in our long basketball history, has beaten 10 of them. Can you name any of those teams?

Try it without GOOGLE. I got six with no research then added four more with a little help. I may have even missed one or two.

What a great question. Without research I can think of:
Marquette
Villanova
UTEP ( Texas Western)
Cincinnati
Loyola Chicago?
Louisville?
UNLV?
LaSalle?

I can find no record of us ever playing UNLV and we we have lost all six meetings with Louisville.

Maybe Wisconsin.

I’m going to have to remove one team from my list. Houston. We have beaten them in the past, but they have never won a National Championship in basketball. Lost to NCS in that remarkable final.

But in ‘68(?), we played them to the end when they had the Big “E” Elvin Hayes!! In the Gahden & on the TV……
