Like many of you I am bored with no sports to watch right now. I just watched this video of the JOAN. I couldn't help but remember playing at Fairfield and now to see this, The Cline IPF and the BP weight room all I can say is wow. I know it is not as awesome as Ohio State or Clemson etc but for a university the size of Marshall it is quite an accomplishment.

Sometimes we just need to be thankful for what we have. Not saying we shouldn't strive to improve but saying we have come a long way in terms of facilities.

Upkeep and major maintenance on the University's whole physical plant, and not just athletic facilities, has been woefully inadequate and negligent for several decades, IMO, and shows no sign, sadly, of changing anytime soon!

right you are. It seems we build something and then say, ok it's built, we're done here. We look at the back of seats in the Cam and they look like someone has vomited over the backs of them. I seriously they have even been cleaned since they were installed

This seems to be the norm at many schools. Build a new building show the parents the progress and then neglect older buildings as long as possible.

That will require money...and one thing MU fans hate, is having to step up their financial efforts while complaining about things.

Actually, MU fans, alums, etc., have stepped up adequately when it comes to supporting, shelling out $$$ for new capital projects, both academic and athletic. The problem, issue is the lack of State financial support in terms of building/facility maintenance, renovations, etc. MU lacks the adequate ability/capability of obtaining sufficient revenues from bonds backed by the State to properly maintain its campus facilities. One example is the revenue from the State Lottery proceeds, a portion of which is by law to go to the State's higher education entities for exactly that: facility maintenance and renovation needs!

IIRC, the LAST significant outlay of said funds to Higher Ed renovations, etc., came during Manchin's years as Governor, nearly a decade ago. I recall at the time Joe M. authorized over $100 million in such funds to the State colleges and universities. MU got something like $17 million at a time when its administration had identified around $67 million in "deferred maintenance" needs, most of which still exist today!

So I guess the BG numbers are just fine? All everyone complains about with that, is how small of a number of supporters, actual, in the books, supporters in the BG.

"Actually, MU fans and a handful of big money donors, have stepped up..."

I do agree with the state appropriations for funds being awful.
But you get that with the Michelin Man in office.

The Big Green membership numbers are terrible IMO. We used to try and compare ourselves to ECU on and off the field. They had about 8 times our membership numbers in their scholarship club

Sadly, I've always felt the BG was poorly run and never could quite get over the perception that its a rich boys club that likes to play golf and hang with the coaches. They thumb their nose at the small donors and look to hit homers rather than playing small ball. These days, they need both and need as many as they can.

It's time to take their mission public and to all alumni; not just emailing and tweeting existing members.

I always felt Scooter Shreeve was the best BG director I have ever experienced. jmo.
