Following Marshall's 34-31 setback to Bowling Green, we dive into the ProFootballFocus.com stats to see where there were issues -- and what could've been telling.

The entire offense's grades, by position group, are below:

QUARTERBACKS:

In his seven snaps at QB, Cam Fancher totaled the highest grade of the entire offense, posting a 79.3 overall PFF grade. Fancher posted a good 74.4 PFF run grade and a decent 63.3 PFF passing grade.

Starting QB Henry Colombi finished his outing with a 72.2 overall PFF grade to give the quarterbacks the highest total grade of the bunch. Colombi, who posted a 75 PFF passing grade, was 23-of-34 for 338 yards and two touchdowns to go along with an interception through the air, while Fancher went 3-of-4 for 18 yards through the air and had two carries for 24 yards on the ground.

RUNNING BACKS:

Khalan Laborn, who again proved to be Marshall's bell cow at the running back position, rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries, but also lost a pair of fumbles to finish with a 68.5 PFF overall grade. Laborn did finish with a 70 overall PFF grade in pass blocking and a 72 overall PFF grade in run blocking.

Ethan Payne (two carries, nine yards) notched a 71.3 PFF overall grade to round out the position's efforts.

WIDE RECEIVERS:

Receiving-wise, Marshall had three players exceed 70 in their overall PFF grade, including Corey Gammage, who was the Herd's leading receiver with 100 yards and a touchdown on seven receptions. Gammage posted a 71.5 PFF overall grade.

Shadeed Ahmed, who caught three passes for 36 yards, notched the highest PFF grade of the receiver room at 76.4, while Talik Keaton, who had a catch for 38 yards, was next at 70.3. Caleb McMillan notched 92 yards on just two catches, but was dinged for having just a 31.1 PFF run blocking grade, dropping his overall PFF grade to 62.8.

Charles Montgomery (57.2 PFF), Stone Scarcelle (55.8 PFF), Caleb Coombs (48.4 PFF), and Jayden Harrison (44.8 PFF) rounded out the receiver room.

TIGHT ENDS:

After getting standout performances from Devin Miller over the first two weeks of the 2022 season, the tight end position suffered a bit of a setback Saturday, with no tight end grading above 60 PFF.

Devin Miller had five receptions for 28 yards, but his PFF grade sat at just 49.5 after notching grades of 34.2 as a run blocker and 22.6 as a pass blocker. Stacey Marshall, Jr. posted a PFF grade of just 37.3 with a 31.8 pass blocking grade, while Rahmod Smith's total grade was a 59.9 on just two snaps -- both running plays -- in Saturday's loss.

OFFENSIVE LINEMEN:

The performance of the offensive linemen -- and their resulting grades -- could've been influenced by the main factor of losing Marshall offensive line coach Eddy Morrissey, but the facts remain that only one lineman finished above a grade of 60 PFF. Of those who took more than 60 snaps in the football game, none of them finished above 55.7.

Cedrice Pallant, who notched a grade of 62 PFF, was the top-graded lineman for Marshall, but he only played in 19 snaps with 16 of those being passes. Pallant, however, did notch a 70.1 PFF pass blocking grade.

Dalton Tucker (55.7) and Logan Osborn (53.1) were the highest-graded PFF linemen who played more than 60 snaps, while Trent Holler nabbed a 47.8 PFF grade. Kendrick Sartor and Ethan Driskell played in all 78 snaps in the contest, but held overall grades of 38.8 and 35.1 with Sartor notching just a 20.1 PFF grade in pass protection and Driskell posting marks of 33 in pass blocking and 34.8 in run blocking.
