With the way this game has played out before, location, and the fact that it seems like these will be the top CUSA programs, do you guys think this series will become the biggest rivalry in the conference?

I, for one, am all for it. I love the idea of WKU becoming a consistently good team as it can only help the conference (even though I want the Herd to go AAC).

I feel like WKU is trying too hard to be seen as Marshall's rival or peer in football. A real rivalry naturally develops without it being so forced.

Real rivalries, IMHO, are based on more than just being good at the same time. Over the years, I never really considered Furman, or UTC (basketball) , or Toledump, or UCF as rivals. They were just good at the same time we were good.

Real rivals have over-laping alumni bases, over-laping media coverage, and such. Auburn-Alabama, Georgia-Georgia Tech. So on.

As such, the closest thing to a rival (that will play us) is Ohio, followed by Little Miami. WKU's historical rival was EKU, but since it has moved up maybe it might be Louisville someday. Or MTSU.

WKU and MTSU are rivals already, the game is called 100 miles of hate.

It remains to be seen what kind if team WKU can out together post doughty. Similar to the way people felt about us after Pennington.

That being said, if we had 2-3 more teams the quality of this years' WKU in C-USA, I'd feel a lot better about this league.
