After this year we got any big time games scheduled?
They're not necessarily big time but we play @NCSU next year and host them in 2018.
We also host Pittsburgh in 2020.
We have H&Hs with ECU, Cincy, Navy and Boise scheduled through 2022.
With our loss in tv revenue I would expect to see a few money grab type games starting in 2018.
The money grabs are an unfortunate reality for us because Hamrick was really settling into a nice scheduling groove. Our 2020 OOC slate of @ECU, @Ohio, Pitt and Boise is perfect for us, IMHO.
I like the money grab games. Also, if you have seen the recruiting classes NC State has put together lately we are going to have our hands full with them.
I don't hate them as long as they're reasonable. If we're going to go to Ohio State to play we need to make sure we're getting enough money to cover a lot of things. I'd rather shoot for more winnable games but the bottom line is we need cash.
I respect NCSU. Didn't mean to insinuate otherwise. Just wasn't sure if you considered a mid-level ACC school to be big-time. That said, looking purely at rankings, their recent recruiting classes seem to be pretty average for a P5 and are what I would expect NCSU to pull in (30s-50s).
Do we really need to talk about how distorted the rankings are in recruiting? Unless they have majority 4 and 5 star guys, I wont put a lot of stock in it, simply to due to their 3 star being equivalent to our 2 star recruits, this much we know.I like the money grab games. I think NC State is big time. Any chance to get an ACC opponent in our building that we run up against on the recruiting trail is key.
Also I would see the money games start to show up and more strategic with them. The price tag has gone up big time for these game as schools are ready to pay more money for them instead of playing FCS schools.
Are you really a smartass like this face to face?? Don't think that kind of response was called for.Sorry, I forgot we were loaded with SEC talent every year. My bad.
Ok. I have been out of the loop. I know MIFART is WVU but what does it mean? LOLBig time? What is BIG TIME? When MIFART plays ECU it's major college football , when we beat them, it's a non issue. When MIFART played UCONN it was major college football , when we beat them, it was a non issue. When MIFART played Louisville it was major college football.....
When MIFART played Navy it was major college football, when we play them ....well you get the picture.
My question is this? TCU was in CUSA a decade ago, but now in MIFART terms they're freaking Alabama! What does big time mean as interpreted by a fan?
I mean really how is it MIFART joins the Big 12 , claims they have a genius for a coach , are making 97 million a year, end up in the cactus up my arse bowl but nobody blaims the coach?
Yet Marshall is barely keeping it s head above water, it wins its Christmas time bowl, it's coach has won 10 games each season in the last 3 seasons, a conference championship , AND 3 bowl wins , yet MIFART fans say, he ain't a head coach ?
So I guess my question is this? If you end up with a cactus up your arse, in a conference with an ex cusa team as your new power program, are YOU, big time?

Something big is in the works for 2018........Hopefully an announcement will be coming soon!
I got the same impression when talking to Mike last week. He gave NO hintsSomething big is in the works for 2018........Hopefully an announcement will be coming soon!
I'm personally of the opinion that 2016 and 2020 are basically the perfect OOC schedules for us. 2017 is damn near perfect, also, although I would've been happier with any other G5 game replacing one of the 2 MAC games that season. We really need a P5 game for 2019, one more P5 game for both 2018 and 2021 and we'll be set through that season.
'17 is good but '20 is REALLY good, IMHO.
a P5, one MAC and two top G5s should be our sweet spot.
I agree that 2020 is really good, but personally prefer 2 regional, mid-tier P5 games for us at this point, if able. Louisville and Pitt are both winnable games this season. NC State and, for example, Virginia as a potential to fill a 2018 slot, would both be winnable P5 games. Boise State is as good as a G5 opponent gets, so 2020 is still really, really solid.
Holy Spit Batman (RedParallax)...Marshall is suffering from the AppyState Disease. I just had a heated discussion with an App State graduate/friend because he continues to send me "shit" about their National rankings to include tailgating, defensive backs, offensive linemen, etc. Will they EVER forget the upset win at an average Michigan team in the Big House? His latest text is Appy State is NATIONALLY ranked at number three (behind Notre Dame & Stanford) in BEST O-Lines in College Football. My replay..."not too hard to block Div 1-AA linemen in the Sun Belt Conference." His reply...."Intercourse you, Sweeney---you always have a negative remark about App State's national rankings."
Getting to my point & comparison.
Marshall is a good Top 50-75 football program annually. Yes, Louisville & Pitt are winnable----I will await what Vagas has the line set before I get all AppyStatey. I hope we beat both ACC teams (Louisville is Top 15 by some early reports). Our win over Purdue was achieved on BIG PLAYS....the Boilermakers won the stats war. Purdue became a bad football team---but beating a household college football name (Purdue) was very good for The HERD.
UVa (never happen in my lifetime) & NC State will be difficult teams for The Herd to beat, as will Boise State.
I keep things in perspective.....Marshall is very good at our level. National/World Beaters in college football===Not in the same sentence as Bama, LSU, Oregon, Stanford, ND, Texas A & M---get my drift.....?
Maybe we can become Number One in Beer sales in the Wine & Cheese Section @ The Joan next year!

I'm not really sure what you're saying here. Do you agree or disagree that we should schedule regional, mid-tier P5 games? I get so confused reading most of your posts.
No we will never be an LSU, Alabama etc, but to say we don't play on the same level as say NC State, Wake and the like is completely wrong. We do and have been for a little while dating back to the away UL game. Yeah we lost to VT in overtime but it wasn't because we had less talent or a lesser team than they did. We went on the beat Maryland that same year, beat Purdue last year. If someone was to ask my opinion, which I know no one is, I would say we play to the level of mid ACC teams at this point, and lower B1G teams. That's not to say we wont or cant lose the games you mentioned, they should be very good games unless we drop in play level or they increase greatly in play level between now and then.Holy Spit Batman (RedParallax)...Marshall is suffering from the AppyState Disease. Exactly. Gonna be a good year too considering what we will have coming back. I would say anything 8-4 and above this year is a success, but I expect much bigger things in 2017.Good news is, we get our chances to prove it over the next several seasons......Starting next year.
Dude you know the deal with kentucky, you know the deal with baseball. Most of what you want is out of his controlSay B+
He gets us a Baseball Stadium, H-H with Kentucky, and into the AAC. He gets an A+ and first ballot Marshall Hall of Fame slot
Marshall will never play UK in football, certainly not H&H. UK has to play 8 games versus the Greatest Conference in the History of the World. That leaves four. Then it has to play Loserville, which pretty much openly violates NCAA rules all day every day, and thus is a much tougher opponent than it should be. That leaves 3. Then it is going to, like all Greatest Conference members, take a break with a I-AA. So we are down to 2. With all those seats to sell, UK is going to do two money games (this year Southern Miss and New Mexico State, pretty much like that every year. Sun Belter and then CUSA or MACer. Marshall brings nothing to the table for UK more than Southern Miss or Louisiana Layfayette or Georgia State or Northern Illinois, except for one thing. We have a much better shot at beating their a**. It is not worth the risk to Wildcat management, which really has to start every year knowing it needs to scratch (no pun intended) to get 6 wins.
Baseball: Discussed to death.
AAC: Discussed to death. IMHO, joining the AAC is trading a POS 87 Chevy for a POS 87 Ford. Others have different opinions.
If you are not giving MH an A+, particularly considering the mess he inherited from the worst AD in not only Marshall history but arguabably in world history, you have not been paying attention.
