Playing the What If Game......

1.. WHAT IF....The Herd had not started so poorly against FIU in the cold rain? Loss 41-30.

2. WHAT IF...The HERD defense could have eliminated the late score by UTSA? Loss 9-7 [baseball score]

3. WHAT IF...The center snap-holder play been successful for The HERD vs So. Miss? Loss 28-27

$. What is The HERD had recovered the onside kick at FAU? Loss 30-25

Reality "If a Frog had wings...he would not bump his behind....."

I support the team & coaches are more disappointed
than we the fans.......The HERD wins those games (which were winnable ones).....we are not talking SMACK and have a very good record of 11-1.

At the end of the day...this TEAM was capable to have an 11-1 record with some good fortune here & there.....

Unfortunately zilla they did not finish 11-1 and I can agree that the “team and coaches are more disappointed than we the fans. . .” Bottom line they should be very disappointed BUT we (at least those of us who do support the Herd) deserve better than what they have produced lately. We have the personnel to win - it is the coaching that is very suspect IMO that hinders us.

I concur COACHING is a major part of the puzzle, however, no matter what coaches teach you during the week...it is up to the players to perform Game Day!. I will conclude COACHES have to place teams in position to gain a victory.....but---Players have to run the right routes, make the tackles, hit the correct holes...make the blocks....complete the easy passes......

Coaches can not do these things for the players.....

Zilla, I appreciate your attempt to bolster the "what if" analysis of last year. And I personally concur with the idea that too much "blame" is being placed on the coaches. But you well know that your swimming upstream against a current you can not beat. Those who are disappointed in result want the coaches gone regardless of the path to those results. You can keep telling folks that it isn't Legg's fault that Chase Litton continues to be lasidactical in many passes, throws off his back foot sending the ball high, etc; but they'll only blame that on him not being effectively coached.

If a frog had wings.........

what if we are 11-1. does that make our offense any less predictable? Does that make ourr team any more fun to watch? Would that make the chicken shit game decisions by Doc any better? I don't think so. My problem is not with wins and losses but boring vanilla no fun to watch style of play.. Doc is DonNehlen with less talent. he needs to go.... we will lose by 14 or more to CSU

And the reason we didn't end up 11-1was poor coaching....plain and simple

What if Keion Davis KO against NC State didnt get called back for Holding.

What if Malik Gant wasnt looking in the backfield and stayed with his man against NC State

A couple of bounces and better play calling and we probably would be undefeated.

Or, What if, Zilla, the last play of the Miami game, a pass in the Herd end zone, had been completed? Then, the Deadskins leave Huntington with a W and not an L.

What if, Zilla, woeful UNCC had ANY semblance of an offense? If so, then more than likely the Herd would have left Charlotte with an L and not a W in a game where MU's putrid offensive under Legg put up only 2 scores in a 14-3 win over the woeful 49ers.

You could also possibly make the same argument in our 21-0 win over an equally woeful Kent team at the Joan. So a couple of flip flop, "what if" games going the other way would have meant a losing 5-7 season instead of 7-5!!

Heck, Fever, lets carry this a little farther!! What if . . . Lane Kiffin was NOT the HC at FAU this season! Can't tell me that he and the Briles family weren't worth a lot more than 5 point to the OWLS offensive output every game this year. Probably wouldn't have seen the double reverse half back pass to a ludicrously wide open running back for a TD like the Herd defense saw. So, good probability that MU would have left Boca with a W instead of a L, even with the burden/handicap of being coached by Doc and Legg!![/QUOTE]

What if ...
1. We had coaches that could adjust to game situations as they happen?

2. What if we were prepared for each week to the fullest potential?

3. What if we had a team football IQ in the top 10 in the country?

4. What if we matched our playbook to our strenghts on offense and called plays that were not predictable and put our kids in the best situation to succeed?

Solve these problems and we do not have to worry about our record. Furthermore, you wouldn't have to worry about the outcomes at all vs our schedule. The games would be out of reach sometime in the 3rd quarter.

Then recruit better players. When I discovered on this board all the problems Chase Litton had before getting to Huntington then that explains all you need to know about this team.

When you're playing what if, don't forget that the first win of the season involved two kick returns for TDs and a pick-six, and we barely won. There's more than one direction to the what ifs, you know...

When are some fans going to realize the 2017 TEAM does not have the offensive players [as in past] to light up the scoreboard. The last time I checked----the winners have more points on their side of the scoreboard.

It's about WINS verses Losses that defines a team's resume.....

What if The HERD scored 20 more points than they did...ONLY 20 more points, People.... in the 4 CUSA losses......we are talking 11-1.

Look, I agree with you but people want entertained now.

What if Litton doesn't get a concussion against Arkon?

What if Nick Matthews doesn't miss at MTSU?

What if CUSA doesn't screw us and we play the 2013 championship game in Huntington?

What if Cato doesn't throw 4 picks against WKU in 2013?

What if Heather recognizes that WKU was going play action on a 2pt conversion?

What if 3 out of 4 of Cato's games against OHIO don't end with an ill timed INT?

What if we play Louisville in 2014 like we were supposed to?

What if Swagg comes down with the INT in the end zone at VT?

What if Essray doesn't fumble in the 3rd OT at ECU or better yet why did Rippon lose his balls on a 3 and long that would have ended the game?

What if Butler doesn't get booted?

What if Grooms wasn't such a damaged human being?

What if Snyder would have started Bernie against New Hampshire?

What if the Snyder era never happened?

What if Pruett wouldn't have been running dirty program with roids, academic fraud, and recruiting violations?

What if the fake FG at Ohio State doesn't get botched?

What if we play Notre Dame instead of BYU in 1999?

What if we don't lose to Bowling Green in 1998?

What if hang on and beat Ole Miss in 1997?

What if Chad doesn't throw two 2nd half picks in Morgantown?

WHAT IF CAM HENDERSON DOESN'T TAKE OUR BEST PLAYERS TO THAT BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT IN 1948 AND WE BEAT CATAWBA IN THE BOWL?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Zilla22......What IF Santa is real after all?

What if Doc had not chased off Phil Ratliff?

What if Dana Altman or Billy Donovan had stayed a couple more years in Huntington?

still trying to figure out why Doc chased Phil out of town. Im not sure why he kept him on staff if he was going to be treated that poorly.
