Marshall University President Jerome A. Gilbert this morning released the following statement in response to a Twitter post reportedly made by a Marshall student overnight. The Tweet made reference to a controversial comment that surfaced during the presidential campaign. The user’s account has since been deleted or de-activated, but screenshots of the post are circulating on social media.

How did Marshall get involved with this? Students saw awful stuff online all the time, why did they have to issue a response to this?

I'm not blaming them for doing it, just curious.

I had the same thought. If the kid worked part time at 7/11 should they put out a disclaimer as well? I'm thinking he was plainly identified as a Marshall student and the university was just getting out ahead of it. Not sure I blame them. Sign of the times I guess.

I think that kind of stuff is a big part of the reason trump got elected . A lot of people are tired of the over the top political correctness and constant faux outrage.

When I saw what the tweet actually said I couldn't believe how big of a deal it's become .

This goes back to the safe spaces. You are allowed to restrict free speech if its conservative or republican related but not liberal related postings.

That just sounds so weird in an Olen post. :p

Despite my leanings and beliefs, I'm not afraid of words: if someone says it, unless there is a really good reason to edit the remark, I'm going to repeat it as close to verbatim as possible. Strangely, I'm a bit like George Carlin when it involves words. As Carlin once said about one of the seven words you can't say on tv: "Tits - sounds like a friend; sounds like a nickname. 'Hey, come here, Tits. Tits, meet Toots, Toots, meet Tits. [ ] Tits sound like a snack - now I know what you're thinking, 'they are a snack.' Sounds like Nabisco to me. [ ] 'Pass the Tits, would you Bill.' Look, it's New Nabisco Tits!! Corn Tits! Cheese Tits! Tater TITS!!"
