What Would You Do, Part VII

Bought a 65" television about five weeks ago. Like it but want a 75". So I went and bought a 75" one. Put the 65" on Facebook marketplace for $400. A basically new 65" television still with the packing tape on it for $400 had a million messages of interest within a few hours.

The first guy said he definitely wanted it. He asked if he could pick it up the following day. He assured me he was going to buy it. Later that night, he asked if I could meet him for the exchange since he couldn't get out of work and drive 40 minutes each way to me. I agreed to meet him before 5 pm the following day (since I had to go somewhere that evening), and we'd each drive 20 minutes. It was a pain in the ass for me to have to drive when others who offered me $400 for it would drive to me, but I thought I was doing the guy a favor. We agreed on an exact meeting spot.

The next day, he messaged me to confirm the meeting spot and that the deal was still on. Since he wasn't going to see the television hooked up, he asked me to take a video of it showing everything works. I took a three minute video showing how loud it gets, the picture, the wifi capabilities, that Netflix works, etc. He was good with that. He said he would message me in a couple of hours to tell me the exact time he would be able to meet me. As it was getting close to 5 pm, I messaged him. Facebook Messenger showed that he had been on there. I asked him what time. He didn't respond. He didn't respond the following day even when I told him that I held the television for him even though many others had offered to come to me and get it. He still didn't respond even though it showed him as active throughout the day on messenger. Finally, I told him what an unethical piece of shit he was for not even having the courtesy to tell me that he had changed his mind so that I didn't waste my time waiting for him and could have sold it to any of the others. He wrote back "LOL all because I didn't buy your television." I explained that I didn't care if he bought it or not. The principle that he gave me his word, I did him a favor by holding it, everything was confirmed, yet he didn't have the basic tact to even tell me he was cancelling. He didn't care; didn't apologize, didn't message back.

So, me being the King of Petty and always holding people accountable when they wrong others, has a problem. I thought pretending that I still had the television, telling him that I needed to hurry up and sell it for a move I was going to make, and telling him I would give it to him for $200 (then waste his time and not show up at the meeting spot). But I would feel awful if he drove there and got in a crash. He is a project manager at a national home builder. Do I email his corporate executives and tell him what a piece of shit, unethical person he is? Letting it go isn't an option. The King of Petty holds people accountable.

Fvck that guy. He was acting as if you had something you would be hard pressed to sell, so you needed to bow to every request. If I had put someone through all that, I would not back out, even if I really had second thoughts or buyer's remorse (assuming the item was as advertised). Worst case scenario, I would just have to go through the trouble of selling it once I took possession, but that would serve as a reminder to not be impulsive.

I wouldn't recommend going through with either plan, but I would let others on the group know about his shady ass to warn everyone not to deal with him. I'm a member of a few buy, sell and trade groups, and I've seen people get the boot for similar acts. For the most part, everyone seems to follow etiquette or face harsh penalty including being ejected from the group, then your name floats around to the other local groups and you're done.

Again though, fvck him.

If I were independently wealthy, like you, I would give the tv away. What's $400? That won't even buy a good sweater these days.

I've tried giving things away. Nobody wants it. People think it's a scam, they are going to get robbed, etc.

I've tried giving extra concert tickets away to people where scalpers are charging $100+. The people just look at you like you're a scam or trying to do something to them, then they go and buy worse tickets for $100+ from the scalpers.

My god you have fvcking issues. Who in their right mind considers emailing another person’s boss over a private transaction dispute.

You've clearly never owned a business and/or had employees. If I had an employee who was unethical and/or whose actions could result in giving me/my company a bad name, I would welcome feedback on their negative actions outside of work hours. Hell, the guy has his employer's name attached to his Facebook. Do you think I would use his company to build a home knowing that guy could be the project manager? Do you think his boss would blame him if I posted our interaction on social media so tens of thousands of followers would see how unethical the guy (thus his company) is?

Tell his employer then screw his wife and send him pics. Sugar in his gas tank and antifreeze laced burger for his pets. If that doesn't break him, hook him up with Taz for a new phone. We've witnessed how bad that pos can get into someone's head.

I would probably just move on with life.
That, or just bought a 75" TV to begin with. Why the hell does he even need a TV? That's the question. He supposedly screws whores from 11:00 pm to 4:00 a.m., sleeps until noon or 1:00 o'clock, then supposedly works out on the beach for four hours in the afternoon. That only leaves about an hour at 9 o'clock at night to watch TV. Who the hell wants a 75" TV to watch Maddow?

It’s all weird if you ask me

That's the thing - nobody asked you, because nobody cares what you think you fvcking dork. Even 10 year olds know that a question asked of a group of adults isn't to be answered by them unless they are asked directly. After this long, how do you not see that nobody communicates with you on here? Take a hint: www.herdfans.com

To be fair, does anyone communicate on that site?
