That the game Vinny completely dominated?....have we ever?
App ranked #23 in this week’s Coaches poll..
The only one I can think of is 2011 when So Miss came to town. They turned it over 6 times & our punter put them inside their own 5 about 4 times....
App #24 AP
Herd getting AP votes! (2)
No. But move way up the “also receiving votes” group! Best G5 match-up (out of conference) this season?I'll take it.
IF MU does win, anyone think it'll put MU into the top 25?
By God, I think you are right...Back to the question, I don't think MU has ever defeated a top 25 opponent at The Joan, ever.
Southern Miss wasn't ranked at the time, but ended the season in the AP Top 25.
Also memorable to me, as it was the day I asked my father in law for permission to marry his daughter at the tailgate. It was a formality, we were both old and ugly already, and had been living together for a while. (As a matter of fact, marriage itself was a formality as well, merely an entree into my wife legally harvesting my seed and binding me into state-enforced fatherhood.)The only one I can think of is 2011 when So Miss came to town. They turned it over 6 times & our punter put them inside their own 5 about 4 times....
The only time we beat a ranked opp that I am aware of at the FBS level at home was in 1976. We beat Miami of Ohio who came into that game ranked #20. It was a sweet win. I remember jumping the fence with others at old Fairfield stadium that day. Miami would go onto an inexplicable 3-8 season. Prior to that, they had finished in the top 20 three seasons in a row. The following season they would win 10 games. Great win for the Herd
I think you are referencing the 1973 BG team. They had been ranked early but not when we played them. They beat us that day as well. We beat a decent non ranked BG team in 71 12-10 as well.In the same era, (1976?) we upset a Nehlen-coached Bowling Green squad. They may have been ranked as well. So, it looks like we are oh 4 ranked teams in our now almost 20 yr old stadium....time for the Joan to get her cherry popped! Go Herd!!!
