Will 2020 Marshall get shafted in the polls like the 1999 team?

I remember 1999 team beat Clemson and went undefeated, but could only reach #10 in the polls. That was the biggest shafting since 1998 Tulane.

The wagon that you want to hitch to is that Marshall won on a last second field goal against a 6-6 Clemson while ignoring that Marshall was seconds away from not even winning its own conference to Western Michigan?

I think 10th was about right for that team. I think the major shafting was the lack of a major bowl bid that this team would have likely received had it played 8-10 years later.

I agree with you but you have the Clemson game and South Carolina game confused. Think #10 was right

Florida State won the national title the same year. How bad did they beat Clemson by?

Clemson played a very tough schedule that year.

The 6 teams Clemson lost to finished:

Miss State 10-2 ranked #13
Georgia Tech 8-4 ranked #20
Florida State 12-0 ranked #1
Virginia Tech 11-1 ranked #2
Marshall 13-0 ranked #10

Clemson lost to the only 3 regular season unbeaten teams that year. Their only WTF loss came to NC State who finished 6-6

I agree, we should have never allowed the game with Western Michigan to be so close, but shit happens and that's what good teams do; find a way to win, no matter how shitty of a game you're having. I think we more than made up for that near blunder in our bowl game, thumping #25 (Coaches Poll) BYU's skull 21-3.

COVID shafted this team, if anything. Cincy and the BYU-Coastal winner are ahead of us. Cincy is highly ranked and the AAC is a stronger conference. Cincy also has ranked teams in their conference. If BYU beats Coastal, that’s their signature win over a ranked opponent. They also spanked a pretty decent Boise State team and 3 C-USA teams. If Coastal wins, they hold wins over a top 10 opponent in BYU, a Louisiana team that spanked a top 10 Iowa State team, what was a ranked App State team that we also beat, and then possibly the same Louisiana team again. We’ve got no opponent left that can bolster an argument. Losing Boise St and Pitt killed our chances this year. Our best shot at this point is getting a highly ranked team like a Coastal in a bowl game and beating them setting up next season, and what I’d anticipate a preseason ranked team.
