Now a civil rights investigation is going on. This happened in New Jersey.

Not sure why they would make him do that. I saw plenty of wrestlers with dreadlocks. They usually wear a hair cover. That is usually acceptable and within the rules to wear the hair cover(actually required). The ref told him the hair cover was not acceptable and the wrestler would have to cut his hair or forfeit.

That is complete bull shit on the ref's part. The hair cover should have been enough.

A New Jersey referee who forced a high school wrestler to cut his dreadlocks before his match on Wednesday or forfeit altogether is under investigation and will not be assigned until the review is completed, officials said.

Depends on the rules. I have no idea what they are in NJ.

When I wrestled in WV, the ref could make you shave or cut your hair. I watched a guy dry shave one time because there was no shaving cream and the ref directed him to shave.

Hair cover is within the rules. That is what a hair cover is. You don't have any hair exposed that can be grabbed onto, etc. It covers the whole head of hair.

Not sure you saw many dreadlocks in WV.

I really want to post but I done went and drank a few two hearted ales at bells and a shit load of miscellaneous other beers all through Kalamazoo and I'm afraid I'm shit faced and aunt bee might make fun of me. Sistersville you should see my farm. Two weeks of growth under lights in my utility room. Need mean strain seeds.

Kid tried to wrestle with a NIKE beanie as headgear. Ref told him and the coaches he could either cut it or find proper head protection so he isn’t sued if he or his competitor were to be injured. He made the right call in this situation if in fact this is case which in the circles of the people I know involved in the sport it sounds legit. It doesn’t excuse the ref from his last behavior but if his reasoning is true its the right call to make

Well, that changes the story. I though he had a real cover.

This is what I heard as well apparently another ref allowed the beanie in a previous match but this ref followed the rules and made him find proper head covering or cut hair

You know the political climate has become interesting when Herdman goes out of his way to post a thread in support of a black kid sporting dreadlocks. ;)
