I know of a group of WVU fans driving down from Charleston painting their car up with Card stuff and cheering for Cardinals supposedly wearing WVU gear. I told them thanks for supporting MU athletics with their money. It's truly pathetic what their fans will do.

Maybe they'll stay to the end of the game unlike 50% from Saturday

Sorry, can NOT believe a word of this rumor. I doubt there will be any eers there and if they are and they want to pull for UL I doubt that too. I know a UL guy that has been to mohole.... one thing about eerbillys they don't descriminate on how they treat visiting fans. EEOASsholes.

Sorry, ....Nope, not gonna happen.

NOW I do know some eer fans that still like Doc and have came and sat near me and when I asked them why did you come here and wear your flying THAT 70s LOGO hat and he replied "to show my support of Doc, he should have gotten a shot at the HC job". I thought that was pretty cool. I said got it, and never said another word.

I know a couple who are coming but I think it is more like when we played Memphis basketball in the hey day of their program. They just wanna come see the big time.

Most Spamites I have been around recently are convinced they are going to win that there national champeeenship, based on having won two games and the awful performance of not only the Big 2, but of the better of the Little 8. It will get worse until the cold douche of reality comes in October and November.

They will all be gathered around their TVs for cupcake victory #3 and then probably turn to Okie State and Baylor. Who cares? None of them are coming to the Big City to see us lose.

"Their fans" - So a group of WVU fans that you know represent the entire fan base? I do know there will be a HUGE amount of WVU fans that will be Herd fans on Oct. 1.

Once again a few people do not represent the entire fan base. I can assure you most of the fan base does not believe WVU is going to win the national championship. Winning 8-9 games is the expectation of most WVU fans. Anything less than that would be disappointing.

The same guy who (correctly) said "the Big East was not major college football". The same guy who (despite being from Ohio) spoke of Spamism being "in his DNA", before sending his semi-retarded son to Stanford. The man whose sterling resume includes a law degree but no bar membership, and failures selling real football to Germans and then selling soccer to Texans. The man that turns everything he touches to pure s***.

Ok. Good luck with all of that.

Nearly every game we play home and away you can find a WVU fan in the stands wearing gold and blue. I'm not exaggerating either.

Yep. I see that at Herd sports, and on the general campus. Why? I can understand, not agree with, but understand somebody thin enveloped by state U in a bigger state rooting for state U over the directional he gets into, but WV just does not run like that. Anybody who can get into WVU can get into MU and v-v. There are very few programs where somebody has to go to MU because WVU does not offer that (the reverse is more true). So if you like USPAM, go to USPAM.

The weirdest thing I see is people with 3rd team gear on. Like some idiot wears a Steelers jersey to a Saints-Rams game or a Cubs hat to Royals-Blue Jays. See that a lot on TV. Why? In addition to WVU gear, I often see Outlaw State, Ohio, and UK gear at our games. Hey, if you cannot wear MU stuff, at least just wear a plain shirt.

I remember, years ago, the state's prosecutors were having a meeting in the Big City. Back during the I-AA era. I suppose out of the 55 maybe 45 or so went to USPAM, probably 30 or more twice. They brought them to the game. Pretty drunk crowd. Makes you have a lot of faith in politicians. Started singing WVU fight song and that idiotic cheer.

The big time? Not sure what that means. You do realize that WVU & UL were in the same league for a while. Not to mention WVU has hosted a number of top 5 & top 10 teams in both football & basketball over the years.

Well, I guess 1 out of 4 ain't bad?

Year one was with Doc and Stew's players, ironically Holg's best season.

It's even at the road games and bowl games. It's just weird. A lot of them come to heckle Marshall fans and cheer for who we are playing. For a team they swear is meaningless to them and isn't a rival some of their fans sure do waste a lot of energy on us. Be it on message boards, comment sections, social media, or at games.

Want to see the very definition of pathetic? Go look up @HerdHater on twitter. He is consumed by all things Marshall. IF WVU fans could care less about us then what is his audience?

It is weird. My favorite is the Metronews website. It has a guy who writes the Marshall stuff, although reading Metrolose to get MU news is like reading the LA Times to find out what is going on in Singapore, the guy is pretty good. And always draws 100 comments that can be summed up as "Marshall sucks and we are not rivals". And, Metrolose does a fair job of covering general stuff at MU or just Huntington. A recent story about MU getting some $$ for a building brought out the "Marshall is a community college" idiocy from idiots who have no degree from anywhere, generally including HS.

The total fixation upon Marshall by the typical loser Spamite knows no bounds. It is all they can think about.

Honestly, that is bizarre. Why would anyone go to a game their team is not playing in and wear their school colors?

I know around Huntington there are a lot of guys who flunked out of Marshall and are big wvu fans. I think it eats at them that they couldn't get past their freshman year at MU.

You'd be honestly amazed how many people living in the southern end of WV have been to a Marshall game, completely hate Marshall, and have never set foot in Morgantown (much less Puskar Stadium) in their entire lives.

In Charleston, what you run into a lot is the worker bees are all WVU fans (WVSU/WVUIT/WVJC grads, high school diploma holders) and the boss is a Marshall grad. I've become convinced that dynamic is responsible for at least half the animosity you run into around here.

Oh, absolutely. 100% correct. You have that dynamic all over the Marshall half of the state, not just Charleston. And the related dynamic in more rural areas that pretty much everybody in the community that actually went to college, and has the stuff that comes with being a college educated persons, went to Marshall. When you have 65% out-of-state students and 40% of your in-state students leave the state upon graduation, as WVU does, the chances of meeting an actual WVU graduate are pretty small.

I will also say that there is a big difference between WVU's small cadre of actual alumni and the typical idiots. Following WVU sports is like following wrestling. You have to belive the idiocy the lap dog media spews out. Advanced education obviates against the kind of stuff Vingleberry and Crapridi sell to the non-alumni.

I work with a lot of people in Morgantown, and its so ironic to me that the circumstances that lead me to wind up at Marshall (biggest school in close proximity + in-state tuition) are the exact same circumstances that put them at WVU. Arguing over whose state school is better is kind of like arguing over who has the best branch of the DMV.

"Our lines are 20% longer, but our average wait time is 5% shorter, and we have a bowl of mints next to the front door. We are the Flagship."

The term "flagship" reminds me of the old George Carlin line "any country with 'democratic' in its name probably isn't". Fact is there are states that follow the "California Master Plan" and where you go to college is determined by your grades and test scores. West Virginia is not among those. Any person with any business in any college can attend any college s/he wants in WV. You do not see schools that actually are supreior to the other schools in their state touting themselves as "flagships" or whatever.

Fact is attending WVU for its minority in-state student population is a lifestyle choice. Nothing more.
