Marshall Beat Writer

He is one of our own and fairly young, so I will try to take it easy on him. But Luke Creasy should be put on the first train out of town for writing this article, taught how to be a true journalist and not a fan-boy, then be allowed back.

In 55 games, the Herd scored five or more runs less than half the time (22) and was held to two or fewer runs 16 times, but only once during the last month of the season.

Can somebody get Luke a calculator? He claims that Marshall scored five or more runs 22 times. In reality, it was 23 times. He also claims that during the last month of the season (May), the Herd was held to two or fewer runs once. In reality, it was twice. Seriously, how do you get both of your claims wrong when all you have to do is count the number of games throughout the schedule?

More, the last month that he is using (May) only went until the 18th day of that month since the season stopped, so it was barely half of a month. Over the last 31 days of the season (a month of time), that number jumps from two to six. It's quite dishonest to try arguing what he did by using "the last month of the season" when it was barely half of a month. If the month ended on May 1st and Marshall won the game played on May 1st, would he also argue that Marshall showed great improvement by going undefeated "during the last month of the season"?

Beals said Marshall’s greatest need heading into the offseason is addressing the battery — pitchers and catchers — but as a whole, he’s seeking depth at all positions across the roster.

Hey, Lucas - how about asking Beals how he prioritizes the battery upgrades over hitting upgrades when his team just set an all-time Marshall low for team batting average?

This season, Marshall’s team batting average was .233, compared to a .273 clip for its opponents.

It was 293rd out of 295 teams. Put those numbers into perspective for your readers, Lucas.

In many ways, Beals’ second year at the helm in Huntington was a step forward. The Herd increased its win total by two games

A two win improvement that went from a terrible season to a god-awful season? That's not a step forward, Lucas. If you're going to use this argument, at least note an improvement in the SOS for the Herd to justify your claim.

Be a true journalist. You will get more respect by being honest and presenting things factually. If you piss off some people within Shewey, that is fine. Those who get pissed will be out of there soon enough. You will earn more respect being a legitimate journalist.

Culture Shock

Marshall soccer continued their trend of signing foreigners today by getting a commitment from Haruhi Taneda.

What do you think about Marshall doing this? Can you imagine foreign kids seeing things about the U.S. their entire life: California sun and beaches, New York City towers, celebs, wealth, etc., then landing in Huntington?

Instead of California beaches, they get brown water in the Ohio. Instead of the NYC skyline, they get The Frederick. Instead of Samuel L. Jackson they get Alligator Jackson. Instead of wealth they get Hillbilly Hot Dogs and “luxury apartments” like the one in my icon. Instead of Rodeo Drive they get Hal Greer Blvd. That has to be a brutal wake-up call for these kids.

Should Marshall be bringing a bunch of foreign kids to Little Detroit and putting their life and well-being at risk?

May want to try Jersey Mike’s the next time

I was at the end of a rather long Subway (the samdwich shop, not the train) lunch line when I saw a car with New York plates pull into the parking area. Two middle aged ladies got out and stood in line behind me.

After only a few minutes, one of the ladies walked out of line to the counter where a young female employee was working as quickly as she could to feed the crowd.

I couldn’t catch the animated conversation from where I stood, but suddenly the counter girl exclaimed, “Lady, I’m not in the mood to put up with this. If you don’t like it, get the hell out!”

The lady turned and headed toward the door in a huff. . I wanted so badly to say, “And welcome to West Virginia.” I restrained myself.

Damn you, Big Box store

I was walking with my niece in her garden when I noticed a beautiful plant she had along the path. Each flower was so perfectly formed. I wanted one.

My niece said she remembered getting it at a local BB store, but she couldn’t remember which one or the name of the plant. I took a picture and did some research.

I discovered the plant was a variety of helleborus more commonly known as a Lenten rose. I also learned that the plant can be highly toxic if ingested and even dangerous to touch for some people. It can cause skin rash and irritation.

I told my niece she might want to keep her grandchild away from that plant when she visited. My niece was very surprised at the dangers the plant posed and said it was probably the reason she had been to the dermatologist several times with serious skin rashes.

I enjoy working in my garden and I have become fairly knowledgeable over the years about plants. I know which ones have toxic seeds, leaves or flowers. It really surprises me that warning tags aren’t required on plants that can be deadly. We require warnings on a jar of peanut butter but, to my knowledge, not on toxic plants.

NCAA agrees to allow schools to pay players

The NCAA and its five power conferences have agreed to allow schools to directly pay players for the first time in the 100-plus-year history of college sports.

The NCAA and its leagues are planning to alert plaintiffs' attorneys Thursday that they are prepared to move forward with a multibillion-dollar agreement to settle three pending federal antitrust cases, sources told ESPN. The NCAA will pay more than $2.7 billion in damages over 10 years to past and current athletes, according to sources. Sources said the parties also have agreed to a revenue-sharing plan allowing each school to share up to roughly $20 million per year with its athletes.

soccer spending

This has been floating around Facebook this week, so I don't warrant the accuracy.

Men's soccer budget. $2.23M. That is 9th in country. Only out-spent by Syracuse ($2.78M, the biggest spender), Clemson, Indiana, Notre Dame, Washington, Wake Forest, Maryland, and Southern Methodist.

Men's soccer live gate. 2,198. Only outdrawn by Maryland and Clemson.

Considering all of those schools, save SMU (which charges $62K/year tuition) are flush with P4 cash, it is impressive.

MICHIGAN HERD ALERT: SAUSAGE TATORS EGGS

Just grilled up a mess on the flat top, listening to Meryl Haggard & Friends. Drinking a new IPA made in southern Jersey and it has a crab on the can. Heading south to Big Truck farm brewery after I power wash this dirty deck.

Hope wv-fan is safe and sound, and brushes his tooth today.

greed I would have you go with me today, had you not been a licking SNOT all day and evening.

Rachel and raoul are twerps.

Sistersville

Janet sent me some nudes while you were back in the bedroom trying to breathe. Not bad titties but wish she would trim that bush around her vagina. My Puerto Rican 🇵🇷 wife had nothing but some nice soft fuzz. She said the Appalachian women that attend 10k running events (in their underwear) let their bushes grow rampant. I need to buy some colored tube socks, hopefully camo to match my drawers since I'm planning to drive up to Harrisburg and compete for the best looking crank at the halfway point.

What is better than being in the heart of Dixie.

Normally 6 inches deep in Virginia.

But, it is going to be a big foot up some whining liberal asses. Everything woke turns to shit but, this forum won't.

Here we are trying to enjoy a holiday weekend while remember those who gave their lives for freedom.

And, then some snot nosed liberals want to crap all over the forum. I am trying to get a round in and get alerted to this.. Whar a bunch of miserable couple of people.

Have Any Of You Old Farts Done A Spartan Race?

Got talked into doing a Spartan race. The distance is only 5k but my shoulders aren't the greatest (injury, age, etc...) I know you can take a time penalty if you skip an obstacle but I want to avoid that at all costs if I can. I've got two months to strength train but it's honestly more about getting stronger to try & prevent injury climbing shit - I'm in my late 40's.

@riflearm2 , have you or anybody on here done one? If so, did you take a lot of wear & tear doing it?

SOCCER MSOC '24 Spring League

With the Spring Season officially kicking off against Rio Grande today at 4PM, I thought I would start up a new thread for us soccer junkies to go nuts in.. give those who might not follow as much a break from the notifications.

Not a whole lot to keep an eye on IMO. I'm pretty sure most of the new guys won't be on campus until June. Will be interesting though to see if Souza is there today and who we got as keeper - although I do not think Rose is here yet.

Ukraine Update

Odesa is clearly on the Russians radar and they will look to take it this year(soon). If so, they will control on the southern most port city of Ukraine and will control the port where much of Ukraine export of wheat goes out, economically crippling Ukraine to a large degree. Once they control Odesa is strikes a major blow strategically, economically, and geographically to Ukraine.

Good thing that idiot Blinken was over there playing in a rock band while Ukraine is falling and hundreds of thousands(yes) of Ukrainians have died and they essentially have lost a large portion of military age fighting males. They are sending old men and yes, they are sending mentally ill people including people with down's syndrome, etc. to the war effort. That is what it is coming to.

The Russians have gotten better at war. The Ukranians have as well. But, time and manpower is not on the Ukranians side. Look for a major Russian offensive this summer(in the coming weeks, shortly) as they push towards Odesa and they are going to open main battles lines further north and to the east.

The United States has been sending weapons that were older and in our inventory. The politicians(on both sides of the aisle) have told us this was no big deal as it was old stuff we were not using. Well guess, what? Estimates have it that we are going to run out of that old inventory soon. We are at about 80% through that sending it to this proxy war in Ukraine. That means we either have to ramp up production of our military industrial complex or start sending our inventory of weapons from what our military has, particularly the US Army. Or both. NOT GOOD. We loaded Ukraine with weapons and are now running low.

US weapons systems have proven to be expensive and not totally effective for the cost.

This is turning into a debacle and the pickle is now what happens? We need weapons production. Does Russia take Odesa(likely) and then take Moldova. I

The Ukrainians will have no ability to push Russia out so what is the end game? Major Russian offensive coming soon.

We were lied to, again.

Getting skunked by women and children

Out fishing and the women and kids are catching more. Some little girl just reeled in a nice Spanish Mackerel on a little old kid rod.

I love the South. Fishing unites. Me, women, kids, blacks. whites, Hispanics. Me getting skunked. 2 rods doesn't matter. Skunked. The Mexicans and Hondurans will keep about anything. But not like the Asiana. They keep it all. Everything.
