Yup. I don't even read these statements anymore. I always felt they were pretty copy and paste anyways. They're even more disingenuous now.Marshall will always hold a special place in my heart, until the 3rd school in 4 years pays me more money. These kids better enjoy it while they can. The next 60 years or so of life won't be as easy.
That may be one of the motivations for some states looking to make the players employees. They are going to have to allow for the existence of binding contracts between players and schools. If you want to transfer you can’t because you are under contract. Period.
I don't think buyouts are realistic. IF they are employees then all their compensation they get through the trust would be subject to stipulations in the contract and they would receive paychecks not just a lump sum check they can cash and bounce on.Like with coaches would at least be nice if there was a buyout received.
The NCAA still has control over regulating coaches' actions.I don't think buyouts are realistic. Even with them being employees there is no control over what they make on their own in endorsements.
This thing really is difficult to control. It would be great if players would learn from past mistakes, but they won't. They're all kids who think they're worth 5-7 figures and regardless of how many teamless portal entrants we have each season they'll never be a shortage on uninformed/misinformed players making bad decisions.
Something definitely needs to be done about roster shopping though. There's so much tampering going on and it's killing the sport. However the NCAA was more concerned with Jim Harbaugh stealing signals.

The control over player move was more or less taken from their hands because the NCAA had no hope in any lawsuit brought for restricting player movement.
And the small handful of coaches that take jobs and dip in under 1-2 years aren't looked at very well either. It's also a rarity. You don't see coaches taking/getting multiple HC jobs in the span of a year either. You might have a coach do well and get poached after a season or a Butch Jones situation. There was a natural progression for the most part. G5 coach earning a P5 job. What we have here is players in and out of the portal several times in 6 months. Those schools also got compensated when said coaches leave. That's also not happening with the players. When they're getting tampered with by another school their current school doesn't get a buyout on the 6 figure NIL deal.Back in the day, a head coach would leave a program, more times than not, because said coach cheated in some way.
The head coach leaves scott free, while the program (and players) have to endure the fallout from them.
Oh sure, the departed HC can pretend to be mad at the NCAA, but it ultimately doesnt matter. He's gone and kept his on paper reputation intact.
The media wouldn't bat much of an eye, reporting the changes and the program slinks into irrelevance which can impact its financial stability and future.
Now, when players do it, suddenly it's a crime against humanity.
There are plenty more good players than good coaches.
Let players leave, the head coaches who leave like they have, showed no alliance to their programs, why should players attempt to take a moral high ground, when there aren't any morals anymore?
Frankly, I'm happy if Vanderbilt gets a player that is the reason Alabama doesn't make the SEC title game and Mississippi State gets it, well, in a way, the playing field is level.
Yes it is. Really relegated schools like us and others to little more than Farm teams for the better healed P-5 outfits. It is unsustainable! And the small handful of coaches that take jobs and dip in under 1-2 years aren't looked at very well either. It's also a rarity. Michigan just lost a player that was getting a couple hundred thousand and hasn't even played yet. He just hit the portal to get more money. Did the new school "buy him out"? Nope. Dude cashed the check and bounced.
This is a completely unsustainable model. Period. This is way more than players just getting theirs which most everyone had no problem with.

college athletics has become the WIld Wild West, and it's only going to get worse. That's what the big boys wanted.
They need to go back to the old transfer rule of having to sit a year. The transfer rule is what has college football on fire. Sure, NIL is gasoline being poured on the fire, but they need to reign in the new transfer rule somehow if they want to get things under control.
