    HUNTINGTON, W.Va. –

In addition to coverage from @HerdMBB on Twitter and Instagram, the game can be found on the Thundering Herd IMG Sports Network with Steve Cotton on the call. Live stats will be available through UTSports.com.

    BETTER LATE THAN NEVER

Marshall is the second-last Division I men’s basketball team to open its 2015-16 season. Only Alcorn State - which visits Grand Canyon (in Phoenix, Ariz.) and tips two hours later Thursday night - opens its season later than the Herd.

    ROCKY TOP TIPOFF

For the first time in 46 years, the Herd tips off regular-season play against a power conference opponent when it faces Tennessee on Nov. 19 in Knoxville. The last time Marshall opened in such fashion was Dec. 1, 1969: a 96-80 loss at Kansas.

    THE HERD VS. THE SEC

Marshall is 11-28 against current Southeastern Conference members.
    • The Herd’s last matchup with an SEC team was against South Carolina last season, a 77-59 loss at Cam Henderson Center on Dec. 1, 2014.
    • Marshall’s last road game against an SEC opponent was a 92-65 loss against the Gamecocks in Columbia, S.C., on Dec. 30, 2013.
    • The Herd’s last win over an SEC team was against Georgia at Cam Henderson Center, 89-79, on Dec. 18, 1999.
    • Marshall’s last road win against a current SEC team was at Texas A&M, 69-66, on Dec. 7, 1989.

    SCOUTING THE VOLUNTEERS

Tennessee is 1-1 on the young season, with six points separating the two games. The Volunteers defeated UNC Asheville to open the regular season, 82-78, before falling on the road at Georgia Tech, 69-67, on Monday. Senior guard Kevin Punter leads the team with 20 points per game on 56 percent shooting from the field (14-of-25). Derek Reese is the Vols’ top rebounder with nine boards per game.

The Vols lead the series with the Herd, 6-3, with all nine games falling within one decade, from 1936 to 1946. The Herd is 2-6 when playing in Knoxville, with its last road win coming on Feb. 3, 1940 (47-40).
