Flunk them if they aren’t meeting standards.
All of these problems, 100% of them, are based on people caring way too much about college athletics. I recognize the irony stating that on a college football message board, but look.
NIL is good. People should be able to go cut an ad or do golf lessons or run a YouTube page or whatever.
It’s only broken because idiots are willing to fork over six, seven figures just to get someone to play at a certain school. Even when they absolutely know they won’t get that money back in advertising. If Papa John’s makes a college QB the face of their brand that’s one thing because they at least think they are getting their money's worth. If random Huntington guy A wants a three star offensive lineman to come to town and cuts him a $50k check that’s just ****ing stupid.
If a kid isn’t doing classwork fail him and kick him out. Why are they not doing that? Because people care too damn much about the sport. That’s not because of NIL, athletes taking BS classes and barely attending them has happened forever. If you think they’re more entitled now then they probably are, but wouldn’t you be if the thing you were doing was getting $300M contracts from ESPN? If you know you can coast and get passed just to play? If we’re all going to take a stupid game so seriously why would they take school more seriously than the game? The schools need to hold the professors and students accountable just like anyone else. Treating them like they’re special has just created a feedback loop.
But nobody wants to be the first one to do that because they care more about the sports than the academic integrity of their institution and don’t want to give up any advantage to other schools.
