2018 QB question

I just Googled Chase....He admits he thought a lot of himself in high school, growing up near Tampa Bay, Florida. He spent a lot of community time service (handed down from a court Judge) for breaking & entering some homes & garages as a 16 year old. He admits he was foolish and made poor decisions as a teen. [Who wouldn't like to change a few high school things in our own lives]. Give him credit for that! He committed to South Florida (Bulls), however, it did not feel like the right fit for him. Doc continued to recruit him....spoke to him & his parents via phone...BUT NO OFFER OVER THE PHONE. Chase & parents had to come to Marshall and meet Doc---face to face. He respected Doc (Holliday has a son named Chase too) and felt this was the place he wanted to learn & play college football. He wore diamond ear rings (did not not go over big in Huntington) to honor his Mom (a gift from her)...a cancer survivor. Older brother says Chase is and remains a Moma's boy. [NOTHING wrong with that]. He grew up a lot after his Sophomore year after being in the Fish Bowl as the Herd QB...winning the job as a true freshman after the Birdsong debacle at Ohio Univ. He was aloft and came across as being way too cocky. Doc & teammates gave him a second chance (explains Doc's loyalty today)...and the rest of this story is history. I support playing QB at Marshall is difficult because of the guys that played the position before Chase. I like Chase as our HERD's QB. I feel however, he is limited at what he can do (someone mention not having the ability to learn a NFL playbook)...could this be the reason that Coach Legg coaches Chase like he does by limiting his play selection?

I hope Chase & the TEAM closes out 2017 with a victory over So. Miss and has a good game (win) in a Bowl appearance. Only Time will tell....watching & hoping from the stands......

The problem as I see it is Doc handed the Marshall QB job over to someone that has a past history proving their are character issues. Everyone wants to cast stones at Bill Legg but Doc gave him Chase Litton to build an offense around.

Chris not in this thread but most threads about chase he gets talked about making the NFL. Love to see that but i see no way. At one time I thought he had a shot but he is too weak in alot of ways. Do you think he has a shot? Your post to me are always critical and negative. Had I seen the herd play before you were born? I dont know but am quessing yes. Lol its cool Christopher

Soooo...
You'd love to see Litton in the NFL but give basically every reason you don't see him in the NFL and essentially hope he doesn't make it.
...and then you bring in age into the discussion, like that stupid shit matters.

Forest Gump = Bill Legg = Gomer Pyle ... No matter how you cut it...we're TOAST!!!

Yet both ended up actually accomplishing something.
Pyle made it to Infantry and was apparently an excellent marksman.
Granted, he snapped and shot his DI and himself.
Need I really go into Forrest Gump's accomplishments?

I’m guessing that by Locksley’s twitter account that he’s received another offer.

Not sure if anyone should pencil him in as the starter for 2018. That wouldn't be too smart.

If Doc is back next year, and he will be, Litton will be our starting quarterback. You dont bench a 3-year starter unless someone way outclasses him during spring ball and we dont have anyone coming in that is going to be clearly better.

All4theherd chase will start next year unless we get a JC quarterback. As far as age I was trying to say I have seen herd qb's from Bud Nelson till present. All the best herd teams were led by very good quarterback. So far Litton is average at best. Doc has failed getting quarterbacks. Thinking back to when we had pennington starting and leftwich backing him. Wow. Try not being in just a pissy mood.

I wouldn't say he's failed.
Brian Anderson wasn't his QB.
Cato went all 4 years and was 35-18.
Litton is 18-14. I omitted Morgan State, Louisville, Ohio, and Purdue because he didn't start against Purdue nor Ohio and was out for Louisville. Morgan State is FCS.
If he wins out and has a 10 win season next year, he will have 30 wins while a starter here, which isn't bad considering 2016.

Is it a step back? Yes, in terms of many things.
But hardly a failure.

Okay i can go with that we took a step back but not a failure. Also we are beating bad teams. Dad always told me to get better you play better competition. Watched Pitt beat Miami in a beatdown. Pitt ruined wv and miami's chance at a title.

You act like thats something new? I imagine wvu fans were dozing off during that game then suddenly waking up screaming, "2007!?!?!?"
Upsets happened pretty much every week this season.
Well, we have stepped up competition...NC State and Cincy, records be damned, are far further steps ahead than Morgan State and the FCS. Litton did not do too bad against either, dominating one and coming up short in another.

He was only a 3*
Only a 3-star? You know how few 3-star composite recruits we land. He was rated a mid to high level 3-star recruit by everyone. Litton has all the tools to be a really good one, but he definitely isn't there yet, and I believe the issues are of his own doing.

One glaring problem is Litton's reluctance to run. Either he's been told not to scramble and run and he is too slow footed to run effectively. This offense would be SO much more EFFECTIVE if he could, and would, run (see Cato).

As for the Pitt upset by Miami, biggest play of the game was a bootleg role out for a TD by Pitt's freshman QB. Whomever is MU's next QB, I hope running ability is part of his arsenal!!

You can bet your sweet azz it was not a BOOTLEGG role out...Not even in our playbook

Cheese and Rice! Litton doesn't have the tools. Good golly. He was better as a freshmen.

Litton just threw for over 300 yards with 4 TDs while our running game averaged a paltry 2.8 yards per carry and Litton is the problem? What about the O line that has struggled most of the year to open up running lanes? The last three games the team has averaged 2.9 ypc, 1.7 ypc and 2.8 ypc. How do you expect your QB and team to be successful if you cant run the ball any better than that?

and Litton wasn't better as a freshman. He just had help that he doesn't have now. His freshman year he had Devon Johnson averaging 6.3 YPC. He had Tony Pittman average 5.1 YPC. He had Remi Watson average 5.0 YPC. He had a legitimate rushing attack to help him out. This year none of the running backs are averaging 5 YPC or more except for Pittman who has had only two carries and for whatever reason Doc doesnt want to play Pittman at running back.

Littons inability to run the football or at least tuck and run when needed is the reason our running game suffers. Jmo.

That and our overly simplicitic play calling. A couple of his longer throws today were pure luck on our part that the defender was totally unaware where the ball was.

I just don't think he will give us the leadership and consistent play we need to win the league. The numbers tonight were solid but he just never looks comfortable or in control like a three year starter should. Jmo

Yes, I do think he has a shot. Don't believe me, ask @Y.A.G Si Ye Nots.

Personally I think Chase has a long, long way to go with his mechanics. Until those are fixed he will never be accurate enough to fit the ball in the tight windows that are necessary at the pro level.

Because you have a tendency to railroad conversations and it drives me bonkers.

This thread is a good example. No one had even mentioned Chase and the NFL until you chimed in.

Then your response to me calling you out is that you're tired of people talking about Chase and the NFL when you're literally the only person in this thread doing exactly what you claim to hate.

See where I'm going with this?
No not really but i should never post about our qb. I know he is working hard. Put on weight too.

Bottom line, if Green is as good as advertised, he will play. If Garrett has improved by redshirting, he will play. Besides, I believe Morrell is allot more athletic than Chase. We simply dont know what we have in Green. We have not see him live! Garrett stared against a #2 defense (Louisville) in 2016 and although he was very, very limited on his play calling, kid did ok.

Morrell did OK against Louisville? We only had 59 total yards from our passing game while Morrell threw the ball 21 times with a 42.9 completion percentage. That's horrible. You also have the other game Morrell started last year, WKU. That didnt turn out any better. We got thumped 60-6 with Morrell throwing a couple of interceptions.
