30 Dead, Many Still Missing in Buncome County, NC

We need to help these people. From what I am hearing from people it is beyond anything they have seen.

wait, i thought all it was is "some trees down and no electricity . . . "?

I know Asheville has it's warts, but i still like it. I have met some small business owners there like French Broad Chocolate and Oak and Grist distillery and I suspect they're literally under water. Some great farmers there and chefs I've met over the years...i bet they're decimated. There's so little internet now way to know right now but not looking good.

Yuuuuup. And it’s going to keep coming, and worse.
We are more populated now. We don't know what storms hit these places 500 years ago. Really, we only know in terms of Hurricanes towards the end of the civil war era. The storms are no worse than they used to be. There is a bigger population in these areas. There is more infrastructure to get damaged.

Lmao.

Ok, what was the population of Florida in the 50's? 60's? 70's? North Carolina?

Hurricane Hazel was the worst hurricane to hit NC and that was in 1957. Fewer people killed, less property damage. Why? Not many people on the coast. It went all the way through Raleigh. If that happened now it would be pure destruction.

That's a fact.

Yehh nothing like lithium being mined. that is good for the environment. Then, tossing the old batteries when they die is good. Oh now they have Lithium phosphate batteries. Ever been to a phosphate mine? I have. That is environmentally awesome!

One of my favorite cities in America to visit, honestly. Some great local restaurants and brewers, and it's a perfect area to base out of for an outdoors-active vacation. Last time we went, we rented a cabin outside of town and explored the Black Mountains (well, I explored more than the wife, she has Kansas legs and lungs lol), ate some good food and took Mom to the Biltmore, really a great vacation.

Geologists and hydrologists do. The signs are all around if you know what to look for.

Modeling can also show what the worst-case scenarios are. This was a worst-case scenario because of the system that dumped rain before Helene.

Half of Asheville hasn't bathed in a month, so this may do them some good. There is enough granola there to sustain their nutrition for years.
