The issue was also given much attention during the trial of Saddam Hussein.

So maybe you folks ought not to have a love affair with Husseign. You can argue the right and wrong of the Iraq war but this clown was a human ass bag of major proportions. One less tyrant in the world.
And maybe the U S should attack the southern states for committing treason back during the civil war. We were having a discussion about wmds in the lead up to the Iraq war, and were not discussing well known bad guys throughout history. Follow along if you can.

We're any active wmds programs found in Iraq? A 2 year investigation was performed by a multi national organization and NONE were found, and no evidence was found that any wmd program was active for several years prior to our invasion. Period.
Yes, there were stockpiles of chemical weapons found in Iraq, but they were from pre-1991 and were degraded, misplaced, and improperly destroyed. There were NO ACTIVE CHEMICAL WEAPONS PROGRAMS found in Iraq. If a viable weapons of mass destruction program had been found, Bush and his administration would most certainly have used it to vindicate the war with Iraq. They did not because it was not.
Well, I hate to tell you this WMD's were not the only reason we went to war there in Iraq. It wasn't a personal vendetta so, don't start the idiotic talk about that either.
Iraq was much better for us to fight bad guys than Afghanistan. WMD's were used as part of the "promotion" of the war.
Remember when we go to war we dictate the terms and choose the battlefield. Afghanistan is much harder to do that. We couldn't easily move our big heavy divisions that we needed to do what we needed to do.
Remember, Iraq was the flypaper, and the big ugly ass bags that came from all over came to fight us Iraq. Iraq was the battlefield of the choosing.
Right, wrong, or indifferent that is why we went to Iraq. We couldn't get enough of them in Afghanistan. The reciprocal effect at the same was we got rid of Husseign and took out his Army.
Since 9-11 we toppled three governments and two dictators not bad and we have had two Presidents.
You might as well come to the realization that it wasn't a lie why we went to Iraq. it was the process of selling it to the American people who wanted to do it after 9-11. We set terror organizations back a decade by going to Iraq so it wasn't in vain. We have also conducted operations elsewhere and we are really at war all over the world. Research Africa. That is where a lot is going on.

After 9/11 I said, well were are going to Iraq whether they did it or not. It is our best staging ground and I am a peon not a war expert.

You can argue tactics and implementation. But, the day after 9-11 the Pentagon was preparing for war in Iraq.
We are technically still at war with North Korea but under a cease fire agreement from decades ago. We stopped the communist advancement and now there is a cease fire.
