We beat Notre Dame last week! The future is so bright we are gonna need sun glasses!
Ummm, sounds like you're one of those guys saying the same thing about D'Antoni's basketball team the last few years.

However, market data for the same period indicates that sunglasses sales have remained "flat", actually declining slightly, in the greater Huntington area!!

Hopefully the beating we took last night will wake this team up to realize one must earn each win and no team is going to lay down and quit. I knew the SBC was going to be up hill challenge but that is why Coach Huff was chosen, to coach, lead and win games.

Only hard work and desire to win it all will the team get to be chosen the champs of the Sun Belt Conference.

before the season I said losses to ND, Troy, App and either ODU or JMU. 8-4 still, maybe better.

The sky is not falling.

Maybe we will get to 7-5, lose a bowl game, and start talking about how we will fill in for other teams in bowl games because we play "anyone, anywhere."

All better hope that at season's end Bowling Green's Falcons do not end up as a 4- 8 or 3-9 MAC East "Bottom Feeder"!! It's bad enough to lose to any MAC team, even one that is a Division or League champion!

Damn; now we have fans trying to force other fans to be ok with mediocre or below average. Have no expectations, just blindly give donations and all OuR gOaLz aRe sTill oN dA table. Foh

If you don’t want to give money to the sport programs then give it to the school instead. You have options.

Y’all’s ridiculous ND was our super bowl and we were bowling greens. Look at our record there. Huff will have the boys ready for next week at Troy. I’m sure all the players thought this was a cake walk game like ND thought we were. This is why college football is better than the nfl. Crap happens this doesn’t ruin our season play one week at a time and have the 1-0 this week mindset. Marshall fans on social media have disgusted me for the last day. The sky isn’t falling we will be up for conference championship discussion at the end. App pulled off a miracle in the final seconds costal isn’t impressive Louisiana lost to a cusa foe. I repeat the sky isn’t falling. Just don’t pay 13k plus for a ND game ball or $375 for a cutting board. This season was never going to be the special season many thought after we beat ND

I'm still gonna root for us and give money. However how doesn't this ruin the season for the "fair" weather fans? Guess what MU needs.....more fans and donors. We are never going to get where we want without another magical run, we need an access bowl season. The fans that have been ran off from the last 15 years of mediocrity are not going to be brought back for a 7 win team that finishes 3rd in their division. The sky has fallen on those fans for the season. Regardless of what you or I think, MU desperately needs those fans and they are lost for another year.

The sky has already fallen if you are one of those fans that cannot respect the system we play in, where one and only one G5 team makes a name bowl and the rest play one another, or a 6-6 P5 team in some pre-Christmas bowl. MU had a chance for a brief time to go to the kind of bowl that the non-respecters wanted. We blew that chance.

But if you respect MU football, and thus understand the system for what it is, (in other words, if MU football is for you) then we have every shot at winning the seven games needed to go to such a bowl. 7-5 is a real possibility for this team. It could happen. It looks like it will come down to JMU and ODU. We have a shot at beating either one.

Wait so Marshall football is only for me if I accept mediocrity and crap.com bowls?

One, and only one, team from teh G5 goes to the “access bowl” vs. a top team. EVERY other G5 team goes to ESPN owned “crap” bowls versus one another or against a 6-6 P5 team.

MU totally blew the (slim) chance at the “access bowl” by losing to one of the worst teams in the division on Saturday. The season now is a struggle to get to 7 (usually 6, but we played 2 I-AAs) wins and a “crap” bowl. If you are down for this season, let’s watch the Herd and see if they can win the requisite 7 and which MAC or CUSA school they play.

If that doesn’t interest you, then we reload for the one in a lifetime shot at the “access bowl” next year, find something else to do for now.

It is totally possible that this team wins 7 games.

My mark isn't the Access Bowl. I want conference titles and when we're not winning the conference we're in the mix to play for them. These last two decades of football save for 2013 and 2014 have been an absolute joke.

The entire athletic department shifted down after 2004 and got lazy. You can't even find a darn post game interview with the HC or updated player bio on the website.

No. Middle of the road crap is not acceptable or enjoyable. This is Marshall not Akron.

Marshall spend two decades branding themselves as a Championship or Bust program. It's time for them to sack up and get back to that because we're all waiting on it.

I can’t make a W-L prediction yet until I get a better feel for this team, but if I had to I’d guess 8-4 at this point.

There are only three post-season games that most people pay any attention to now anyway. The two playoff games and the National championship game. Everything else is a “crap” bowl. “Access bowl,” lol. Access to what? Nobody cares anymore about any bowl games outside the playoff games except for the fans of the teams playing in those games. What is far more exciting to me is winning the Sun Belt conference championship.

This logic supports mediocrity. Let’s just fold the team, then.

To get to an access bowl, a G5 team generally must go undefeated. So, instead of going undefeated and getting to an access bowl, we should just accept some losses and say “but we had a chance to play in the Sun Belt championship!!” No thanks.

By the way, it’s more than just viewership of a single game. It’s the payout to the teams and national exposure of the university leading up to the game. We also have a better chance of a higher ranking earlier in the next season with an access bowl win or close loss. See: Cincinnati 2020-21.

We’ve been mediocre since 2004. One league title since. ND moved the needle for a week.
I like our league but we’ll see what Huff and Co can do.

I am not saying we will win the SBC, but to say it is out of the question now is just silly. It will be a crap shoot, but we have as good a chance as almost anyone. My hope is the the BGSU game becomes an important learning opportunity as the season progresses. We shall see.

As to the discussion of what the playoffs are doing to the bowls, yes it is a bad thing. The playoffs were an answer to a question no one was asking. Bowls, even the “crap” bowls that non-supportive MU fans turn their nose up at, used to mean something. If they go away, what is the reward for a good season? Not just for the G5, but for 80 to 90% of the P5 which will never, and I mean never, make the playoffs?

That is a discussion for another year, for MU. I’m down to see this season play out. It is, with massive improvements and some luck, get to seven or even eight wins. We must continue to work towards being up there with the better teams in this conference. For this year, a “crap” bowl is the goal. If you are down, enjoy the ride. If not, well maybe find something else to do.

I don't understand why our fans always think the ceiling is way higher than it is and the basement is way lower than it actually it. So many fans got ahead of ourselves (as usual) because of one game. Winning the Sun Belt is not just something that is going to happen. On a great year yes, but lets stop acting like were the top 1-2 programs in this conference. On the flip side, losing to Troy isn't exactly mind blowing in a negative way. Pretty sure Texas A&M lost to someone similar. Is their season over? No. Chill out

Because it's not one game. It's BG followed by Troy and the way in which we lost them. Then when you compare this slide against how we handled similar situations in recent years. The team folds and we go on long skids. The only thing saving this team from an epic losing skid is playing G-W.

If we were playing ULL this week instead, it's very possible that we'd be on a 6-8 game skid. The schedule does not get any easier after G-W. ULL is going to see how we're playing and remember how they pushed us around in the bowl game so they'll come in confident. JMU is on an absolute tear and Coastal seems to be improving plus they have good QB and we struggle against teams with good QBs. Not sure about ODU, but that could just be one added to the snowball. Appy is a rivalry. They're going to bring it. These last two games have been epic and I don't see this one being any different. Georgia Southern is no slouch either.

The SBC isn't CUSA. There are no FIUs anymore. Every program, especially in the east, actually cares about winning games.

So in other words- Bowling Green was a bad loss (I agree with that) and we lost to Troy, which is not really an upset, and the other games are all tough because the SBC is a very nice conference. Basically there aren't a bunch of FBS bottom feeders like there was in CUSA. We upset Notre Dame (who is obviously way overrated this year like all years) and then our expectations skyrocket. In my opinion every game in the SBC is a battle and I tend to enjoy the fact that each week is usually a great opportunity for high quality wins compared to being in CUSA. If we go 7-5 in a good conference, including beating Notre Dame, I don't consider that a bad season. We can't have the expectation to just go destroy the SBC. That would be silliness.
