Time for "time outs" before talking about gun control are gone. It's long past time, and there ARE things that can be done. No more moments of silence for something that has not been addressed.

It was a moment of silence to honor the killed. That is low class not to attend.

They can take that moment and do something to reduce the chance of it occurring again. No more moments of silence to make themselves and ourselves feel better about it. Not doing something about it is low class.

Seriously, wtf are you going to accomplish during that 1 minute of silence? This is a bad time to try and make a point and a political statement

I can only imagine the response had Trump told people to shove their moment of silence and quit being such wining babies.

You can't be serious. I know you like to argue and take the opposite side. But, not honoring a moment of silence?

Serious as a heart attack. I'm sick and tired of moments of silence as a show of respect when nothing gets done to attempt to prevent deaths from guns. It's shallow. It's like I watch a child play in the road until it gets run over by a car and then showing a moment of silence. You ok with that?

Yehh outlaw roads!

We're not talking about who ran over the child, or where the child was run over, we're talking about people who sit and watch the child play in the road and don't even attempt to protect the child. And you're ok with that as long as the child gets a moment of silence. Pitiful.

Because you can't have a moment of silence to respect those killed AND work on the problem...

Seriously though, we can spend all the time from here to eternity passing laws and and restrictions and still not be able to stop a crazy person or a person with some political agenda from finding a way to harm others. There's just too many people in this world to watch them all and there's too many ways to inflict harm to legislate some miracle solution. Mental illness is also such an inexact science that it's impossible to locate the crazy people before they do these things. In a nation of over 300 million and a world of over 7.5 billion we can't be vigilant enough to predict and find them all. And if we do try we'd certainly have to cross the line of limiting our personal freedom.

What's really happening in these discussions are people being opportunistic with a tragedy to score political points by suggesting that we fix the unfixable by passing laws that piss off their ideological opponents but do very little in actually solving the problem. We can constitutionally guarantee the right to own guns while trying to decide where to draw the line on that ownership (how many, what kinds, etc.), but wherever we draw that line it won't stop senseless deaths. There will be people who find ways to own the banned ones illegally and those who find other ways to inflict harm.

So let's all point fingers at our political nemesis for pausing to mourn the victims of the inevitable because they lost 30 seconds of working on a solution to the unsolvable.

You are sad, greed. Sad. The moment of silence is to honor the people, fellow citizens. The 200 year debate over firearms is not going to be settled in that minute of time.

I'll tell you what's sad. A bunch of posters on this board, and people across this nation, who will whine about a moment of silence for 50+ people killed in a single incident and then turn around and come up with an excuse for not doing anything to make it tougher for the next person to do the same thing. You want to honor the victims? Support doing something. Something.

The more you type, the bigger ass hole you become.

You're one of the many people on this board who are willing to sit on the side of the road and do nothing while the child gets killed by a car. You're a pitiful excuse for a human being, the lot of you.

You are an idiot. Nobody here is going to sit and watch a child play in the dangerous road. Stupid analogy.

Most decent human beings would also attend a one minute moment of silence.

It is not a stupid analogy. It's exactly what YOU are advocating.

If you want to make the analogy apt then tell me...which car do we ban? Do we ban the Ford because it was the one that ran over the child? What happens when someone then runs over a child with a Toyota? Do we ban every car in the country now?

Better yet...there's a child somewhere about to get hit by a car. Go stop it. We can't tell you which road it's on...just somewhere in the United States. Do something. Maybe we shut down the WV Turnpike. What happens when it turns out the child was getting run over in California?

This is not a simple issue and just doing something...anything...isn't going to stop it. Passing a law that says, "Anyone who runs over a child will be faced with very severe punishment...and we really mean it!" isn't going to change the fact that if someone wants to run over that child they will...or find another way to do it.

LETS HAVE A MOMENT OF SILENCE AND THEN IN THE NEXT MOMENT LETS PASS A LAW MAKING SILENCERS LEGAL ON RIFLES. STOP FOR A MOMENT AND THINK WHAT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN LIKE IF THAT MURDERER HAD A SILENCER ON HIS MACHINE GUNS.

To the contrary, House Republicans are on track to advance legislation easing firearms rules, including a package of bills backed by the National Rifle Assn. that would make it easier to purchase silencers.

Opponents of the bill argue that making silencers more prevalent could worsen the impact of mass shootings. Supporters say silencers can prevent hearing damage among hunters.

THE BEST REASON THEY CAN COME UP WITH IS TO PREVENT HEARING LOSS AMONG HUNTERS.
THAT IS ABSOLUTELY LAUGHABLE.

BUT WATCH, IT WILL PASS.

Who asked for a ban? Moments of silence really help those that died and will die. Bravo to all that are satisfied in doing nothing.

Tell us how the silencers would have made it any different?

You prefer trying to locate someone shooting at you with or without a silencer? Upside is mass murderers won't suffer hearing loss.

It takes a village. What trashy advice.
