As I watched the opening drive of the SEC Championship Game and Appleby moved Florida 64 yards in 10 plays to the first TD Alabama had allowed in 17 quarters I thought 'wow....who would have thought after throwing 2 pick-6's to Lang last season that he would be in the SEC Title game playing like this.'
Then, after the Florida defense held the Tide to a 3 and out, Appleby remembered who he was....
The first play after Alabama punted Appleby's pass was intercepted and returned 40 yards to the UF 12. Florida held Alabama to a field goal.
Three plays into the next Florida offensive series, Appleby's pass was intercepted and returned 44 yards for a TD.
So in his first 7 passes he completed 6 for 72 yards and a TD.
In his next 6 he completed 2 for 9 yards with 2 interceptions that were returned for 84 yards and 1 TD.
The score is now 16-9 at the end of the first quarter, as Alabama blocked a punt and returned it for a TD and Florida blocked the XP and returned it for 2 points. Alabama leads even though they have -7 yards of offense.
