A few years ago someone posted the ACTUAL CUSA baseball park standards, and it was shown that they were not massive and could be easily met at the Kennedy Center or elsewhere. Well, they were right, and a very few $$ spent up Rt. 2 have allowed the Herd to quit playing in Charleston and Beckley. The WVU and VPI games excepted, and this is because they draw a solid crowd and we make $$ from them.

Here is the 2019 baseball schedule:

FEB
15 Wisconsin-Milwaukee @ Kissimmee, FL
16 George Mason @ Kissimmee, FL
Pitt @ Kissimmee, FL
17 Iowa @ Kissimmee, FL
22 Iona @ Wilmington, NC
23 Indiana State @ Wilmington, NC
Iona @ Wilmington, NC
24 @ North Carolina - Wilmington

MAR
1-3 SUNY Binghamton
8-10 Eastern Michigan
15-17 Florida International
20 Virginia Tech @ Charleston
22-24 @ North Carolina - Charlotte
26 @ Ohio
27 WVU @ Charleston
29-31 Middle Tennessee State

APR
3 Western Carolina
5-7 @ Southern Mississippi
9 @ Virginia Tech
12-14 Western Kentucky
16 Ohio
18-20 @ Louisiana Tech
23 Morehead State
26-28 @ Alabama - Birmingham
30 @ WVU

MAY
1 Morehead State
3-5 Texas - San Antonio
10-12 @ Old Dominion
14 @ Ohio
16-18 Rice

Again all home games, except WVU and VPI, are at the Kennedy Center in (near actually) Huntington, WV!!

Found this quote interesting in regards to Stadium close to campus. Sounds like it has more footing

"We are pleased to have our team play all of its home games closer to Huntington," Thundering Herd Associate AD and Chief of Staff Jeff O'Malley said. "With the help of the YMCA, we are making enhancements to the Kennedy Center field, which will not only allow us to play Conference USA games there but it will enhance the experience of our baseball student-athletes. However, this is only a temporary solution as we have already begun designing and securing funds for a permanent stadium close to campus."

They are to show design of the new stadium at the WKU basketball game on Jan 12th.

I could see the Power leaving at some point in the next ten years, and then Charleston will have the world's most expensive vacant grass lot.

But good luck with that new stadium, Huntington!

I hope this is the case so I don't have to drive to Charleston as much but there is only so much you can do to the field at the Kennedy Center unless you bulldoze it and start over. Is the Kennedy Center going to add lights at the Kennedy Center? Or running water? Maybe build some restrooms and get rid of the porta johns?

While the drive to Charleston isn't ideal, there is no comparison between Power Park and the Kennedy Center in terms of playing surface, locker rooms, a working scoreboard, etc.

HM, any idea if around that same time the much discussed but still unannounced capital campaign will actually be revealed, including goal(s), time table, i.e., length of campaign, etc.? That will give some indication of how "temporary" the Kennedy facility is expected to be vis-à-vis MU baseball, 1-2 years, 3-5 years, etc.
