as of now are OOC schedule is
Toledo
@ Akron
Ohio
UNI
@ C of C

They are trying to be able to buy 3 home exempt games.

As many of you most likely saw yesterday, the league is considering a change in conference play for this season only.
We would play 2 game home stands against the same opponent.
Example, Charlotte would come in and play Thursday and stay over and play Saturday.
We would go to ODU and play Thursday and stay over and play Saturday.

It would save on travel expenses and lessen trips in and out of airports and airplanes for health concerns.

All practices will be closed to fans and the media. As of now there are no assurances that there will be any fans at the games.
Thank goodness we have the video capabilities that we have so we can at least watch on ESPN+

Thanks for the update, HM!

Meister, how is the big guy out of Chapmanville looking so far? I think he has the potential to be an all-time great, if he's putting in the time and effort.

I can only go on what Danny tells me since I'm not allowed in the building. He says he's working hard and has shown he can play D1 basketball

Meister - Since Meeech & I are old & having trouble with our memories - what is his name again? And - can we just start to refer to him by his 3 initials? Thanks

OAK it is!! How does his potential insertion into the lineup affect current players? Kinsey/Williams/Beyers? And, any legs to rumor D. George might red-shirt?

Danny suggested to Darius last April to consider red shirting. He explained that his minutes would be limited with the log jam of talent at that position. A year to further develop and get stronger would help him be dominant next year with Jannson and Mikel gone.
Now if the NCAA grants everyone an extra year, who knows what the thinking will be. Who knows if the other 3 seniors will want to return next year or as many baseball and softball players have done and move forward with their lives.
As far as Obinna, he can be used as a 5 if we want to go small or he can be a PF if needed. He will get minutes in different scenarios

I didn't realize Jannson was back. Seems like he's been playing there for 8 years. Probably just time moving faster for me, now that I'm getting older.
Yeah - seems like a lot longer than 2 1/2 years or so ago true frosh JW was such an impact player for that NCAA team!

Thanks, Herdmeister, for the updates. This will be a exciting year for Danny's team. Lots of new faces and lots of experienced guys as well. I see Taylor as being the wild card in the team's success. If he performs at a high level at PG, we could have a special team. All the other ingredients are there. Bennett's ability to play significant minutes could also impact number of wins we will see. If Kinsey has a great season, he could enter the draft. I can see West as a grad assistant next year.

The problem for Kinsey is the same as many very good college combo guards... What is he in the NBA?

At 6'4, 180 he is point guard size by NBA standards, but he isn't our primary ball handler and hasn't shown that he is going to be able to handle the point in the NBA... Logic would say, "Well he can play 2-guard" and maybe he can, but if you are going to be a shooting guard in the NBA you better be able to shoot it from 3-point range (a skill he is hopefully improving)... He is certainly not big enough to play SF in the NBA and guard guys like Giannis, Kawhi, etc.

If everyone gets a free year, as expected, no sense in West being a GA when he can play while working on his masters

Now the only questions that remain are what kind of watered down schedule, at least in the OOC portion, will the Herd end up with and when practice opens up on the 14th what weight will Iran be? South of 290# or North (Way North) of 300#???

The OOC games will be @ College of Charleston, @ Akron, Toledo, UNI and Ohio.
We are still waiting for administration approval to buy 3 exempt games like we always have in the past.

As for practice. the team has been practicing 2 times a week since July

If Kinsey develops his outside shooting as Danny says he has, he could easily play the 2 guard in NBA. He has quickness and springy-ness that would overcome his lack of height. I would like to see him stay for his fourth year, but these kids sometimes get impatient. I doubt that the NCAA will allow basketball players to get the extra year due to Covid restrictions. I even think that they may reverse the decision for football players, since all conferences are now playing.

Aside from being undersized, Kinsey shot 48% from the field and only 26% from deep last year. He averages 16/5 in a weak conference. That's not going to get you NBA attention. Also, I haven't seen a single NBA mock that has Kinsey listed as a potential pick, nor have I seen any list with him as a top-100 prospect for 2021. If you aren't in the top 100, you don't leave school to enter the draft (unless you have some connection to go play for decent money in Europe/Asia).

Kinsey is a nice college guard... He is great for our team and will hopefully continue to improve... But I would doubt he ever sees even the G-League. Hopefully he can find some place to play, like Elmore did, make a little money and keep enjoying the game while he's physically able to.

Agree but more money can be made in Europe than the G League.

The NCAA will vote soon on the extra year. Most of what read from insiders is that it will pass
