I’m sure you all have seen the local news with all of those new jobs coming to the Ashland area and all of the politicians jumping on the bandwagon.

Looks like a big OOPS!

That’s strange. You right-wing idiots started a thread bragging about it just a couple of months ago. You right wingers were bragging about your dear savior trump bringing jobs back. Problem is, it turns out to be one of his Russian buddies. I’m sure the red necks of Appalachia will love knowing they are going to work for a Russian.

How is this an OOPS? Is the plant being built? Are the jobs coming?

Were you concerned by the massive U.S. investments by China? Did you know that decreased 84% last year? Between Russia and China only one is a real threat to the U.S., and it ain't Russia.

“How is this an OOPS?”

We just subsidized a Russian oligarch to the tune of $15 million. And one who is very close to Putin himself. I know you right wingers love those Russians so I’m sure you don’t see any problem with it. At this point, I’m just glad I don’t live in Kentucky where my money was used to subsidize a Russian, Oleg Deripaska, who was just removed from US sanction in January.

Now tell me trump isn’t Putin’s puppet.

Did you even read the article?

Deripaska is still sanctioned. His ownership stake in Rusal has been reduced. Rusal is no longer sanctioned.

What investments are you making in the region to bring in or create jobs?

I'm stupid

WTF does my post have to do with his point (whatever it is)?

It certainly is interesting. Not as interesting, in a comical way, as trying to crowd-source $400 million. Oleg Deripaska is not exactly Warren Buffet. It is....interesting. The whole thing has been a little shady. He's definitely shady. I'm sure if it actually gets built no one is going to care how shady it was. I'm still not sure it will be built.

Deripaska is still sanctioned. His ownership stake in Rusal has been reduced. Rusal is no longer sanctioned.

Correct. Technically, he still owns 42.5% of Rusal. I'm sure he still calls the shots. Russia is crooked. It is what it is. Like he really gives a fvck if he is personally sanctioned. He has billions of dollars the US cannot touch. As does Putin.

Cynically, I'd call it a move to make sure Rusal is never again sanctioned by the US. And Russia anything should always be viewed cynically.

Again, no one will care if the thing actually gets built.

Yes, reduced. Not eliminated. So he still profits from it. One of the reasons he was sanctioned has to do with his meddling in the U.S. election. He’s also close with Manafort. And Rusal is only avoiding continued sanctions due to cheeto bending over for the Russians again, which makes sense considering this guy’s help in the election and his relationship with cheeto cronies. Democrats fought against the lifting of the sanctions.

I could actually tip my hat to them if their plan was some ingenious web of deceit and cronyism. But it’s not. It’s so blatantly obvious that you can’t give them credit. They just know that deplorables are so ethically bankrupt and/or poorly educated that it doesn’t need matter.

“But hey, y’all, we gots jobs coming so we can get into a double wide now.”

I find it more impressive it is all blatant. Robber baron shit. Honestly, what is more American than this?

Fvck it, it's a rich globalist's game.

Russian money and investment has been state side for decades. The fact that some people are just now bothered that its happening is pretty hilarious. This capital has been coming here since Clinton was getting serviced in the Oval.

With that said, self proclaimed "do gooders" pound their chest about giving a poor kid diamonds and then mock the idea of blue collar family guy potentially getting a job and feeding his family due to a foreign investment???? Pffft. And we're told Tiger Woods is a piece of shit?

My favorite thing about this forum? The easily predictable faux moral outrage and virtue signaling by libs on any given issue/thread. It's amazing how much sh*t they were fine with and/or silent on 5-6 years ago that they now find morally reprehensible. Weird how that works.

Don't paint me with your broad brush. I've been talking about this for years. The difference is I don't claim false narratives, as you have with the uranium thing.

Yeah. I remember all those threads you've started over the years, b*tching about Russian investment in U.S. business activities . . .

Oh. Wait.

I'm a poser liberal.

It's your own fault for not providing anything more insightful than, "wow, interesting." It came across as an attempt to justify Cuntry's daily faux outrage, yet, at the same time, you knew there wasn't really anything there to justify his rage.

Well at least you guys do have the talking point down while you support subsidizing Russia.

Oh. Wait.

I've been bitching about the Russians since before the internet was a thing, punk. Us Cold War kids are getting old. Get off my lawn.

I've been bitching about Russians, Chinamen, and Arabs investing in industries that affect national security for a LONG time. It's an area we need to tread carefully in. This thing...Eh, I don't think national security is an issue, I just wonder if this will scare off any "legit, straight" investors.

What can I say that I haven't already said about this whole deal being weird, and being concerned it will be another empty promise to Appalachia? This isn't the first thread on this.

And I'm still not sure what his exact point is. His post is written as if this means the deal is a no-go. He's a moron.

His post is written as if this means the deal is a no-go.

I never meant to imply the deal is a no-go. The "oops" part is meant as, "look at what great things we are doing for the area...adding jobs. Look how awesome we are. We are so proud we had a big publicity stunt on the site. Oops, you all weren't supposed to find out we are making a Russian oligarch richer in the process, one who is very close to Putin, and put two and two together to realize you just subsidized said Russian oligarch to the tune of $15 million with your Kentucky state money. That was supposed to remain a secret."

Of course it will continue. GOP in bed with the Russians.

Honestly, at this point I just think they are desperate for funding.

You'll have to tell me how this investment negatively impacts national security. We import 90% of all aluminum used domestically. There hasn't been an aluminum plant constructed in the U.S. in 37 years. If anything, this project helps national security by increasing domestic production.

Crickets.

They've been conditioned by the media to look anything Russian to Trump, which in their eyes makes it bad and a national security issue. With the conditioning they've received, they simply don't have enough brain power to separate the two.

You'll have to tell me how this investment negatively impacts national security.

Who are you talking to? I don't think CR89 said anything about national security (maybe he did, but I kinda gloss over his posts), and I said "I don't think national security is an issue". Use the quote function and get some readin' skillz

What kind of straw man bullshit is this? Where has anyone said it is a national security threat? Hell, Raoul even directly stated otherwise.

It does give more money, influence, and legitimacy to somebody who has tried to influence American elections.

We import 90% of all aluminum used domestically.

Looks like CR already shot down that bogus claim.

Crickets.
.

I love when morons like you jump to support other posts which make no sense. Then, when the original poster can't defend their bogus post, you also disappear.

"Crickets" because the guy posted late at night and you responded first thing in the morning when most people hadn't even read the board. "Crickets" because he used a straw man to force people into defending a position they never argued for. "Crickets" because that's the sound in your head when you try to think rationally.

" Preliminary data for 2017 suggest that import reliance increased to 60 percent."

Oh, you conveniently skipped the next part:

This is consistent with data provided by Vazquez. He estimates that of the 9.1 million tons of wrought (or finished) aluminum goods that the U.S. manufactured in 2017, 4.7 million tons – 52 percent – of unwrought aluminum inputs were imported.

By the estimate, the reliance actually decreased from 2016 to 2017. Regardless, nobody is arguing that opening this plant is a bad thing. What is being debated is yet another Russian who has tried harming the U.S. getting more money, more power, and more influence in America as a result of the cheeto administration grabbing their ankles again for their lords.

Can I set this as an auto reply to every one of rifle's posts that exceed 50 words. Should be good for 80+% of them.

Hey - it's been at least a week since you posted about the size of your deck. That has to be some sort of record. Can you remind us all again how many square feet it is?

I am well aware of the brilliant mind that I have, but you think I'd remember that small info from one post a decade ago?

He has made many posts referring to the square footage of his deck(s), house, and acreage.
Then link them. Stop spewing your typical lying bullshit and link them. Since there are "many", shouldn't be difficult at all.

BTW ~1300, want pics, or is the Google maps pic you found good?
