Braxton enters the portal

I posted this in another thread...

Do you really think he wasn't going to test his portal value after this season???

Where did MU get Braxton from??? Hmmm... Let's see... The portal...

BTW if you look at Braxton's stats his freshman year at Tulsa were very similar to his junior year at MU. The primary difference is he got to start more games at MU.

Possibly, however he was quoted as saying Huff was the best coach he had ever played for.

Do you really think he'd say otherwise about the guy who fills out the starting lineup???

At a MU Hall of Fame event Randy Moss said Chad Pennington threw the best ball of any quarterback he played with. A lot of times the audience dictates what you say...

I don't know what he envision for his future. He might get paid well for his services if he enters the portal, but at the risk of being a backup. If his desire is to be a starter during his last year of eligibility, and enhance his chances of playing beyond college, then playing for a coach that named him his starter and essentially resurrected his career, might be the prudent move.

Let's be honest, Braxton isn't a great passer and his skill set does not translate to the NFL. If he's ever going to make money off of football, it'll have to be through NIL. If the kid can make some bank next season, more power to him. I'd love to have him back, but I'm not going to knock him for trying to better himself.

I'm not sure about resurrecting his career. He started several games at Tulsa before he was hurt during his sophomore year. And it took Huff halfway through his junior year before it was resurrected...

I think Braxton is basically the same player he was at Tulsa, albeit with some more maturity and a little different situation.

On the flip side who's to say he shouldn't consider the benefits of staying at Marshall and building on this season's success.

It really hurts to lose Braxton. He had a 60% completion rate and 19 TDs with only 2 interceptions, but the real advantage is that he was also a darn good RB. The chemistry of the team really came together once he became the full time QB. We were pretty mediocre up to that point. I do like the way Huff tinkered with playing the different QBs until he figured out the right chemistry.

Braxton has a couple of things guaranteed

1) if he wants it, he will be the starter at under Huff and probably have a little more money in his pocket

2) is he doesn't choose option 1, wherever he lands, he will likely be the starting QB AND have more NIL money than what he has now

I am inclined to believe that option 2 was going to happen, regardless of whether or not Huff stayed.

His loss hurts, big time. He seemed like a genuinely good kid. He had the ability to extend plays and will himself to make a first down when we absolutely need it. Best of luck to him.

We might have to decline our bowl invite. Tell them we don’t have 11 players left.

Part of me secretly hopes something like this happens. Kick the NCAA in an a$$ to try and change things. If they start losing Bowl $$ they will change. Having players stay for one year and bounce around chasing (in some cases) ghost money is flat-out nuts. They should take notes from the Sluka event.

NCAA has nothing to do with bowls. If I recall they don't make much of anything on bowl games

Nothing will change until the top 20 schools want it to. Playoffs will change faster than NIL, all because Alabama got left out.

Well if the puppetmaster ESPN starts losing money maybe things will change.

Don't hold your breath...

In reality a large part of that is due to a massive amount of personnel downsizing, and hence salaries coming off the books.

It's a part but not necessarily a large part. The sports unit has been been somewhat flat but is still making a considerable profit.

Gotta love the not so subtle, backhanded compliment you gave him just now.

You'd love to have a player who isn't a great passer and has a skill set that doesn't translate to the NFL, back?
Of course, this comes from your wealth of experience being an NFL talent scout and actually being in the world of such a sport...and not on an online forum, right?
Bless your heart for being so dense.

I agree. He was a good person overall and I'm glad he found success at Marshall.

I'm not like some who will immediately doubt his future because I'm bitter and whiny, I appreciate his time here and he certainly showed he's championship caliber.
Wish him the best.
