"It means that people need to work longer hours” and, through their productivity, gain more income for their families. That's the only way we're going to get out of this rut that we're in.”

A 2014 Gallup poll found that already many Americans employed full-time report working, on average, 47 hours a week, while nearly 4 in 10 say they work at least 50 hours a week.

US workers work more hours than workers in any other large, industrialized country, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Well, it is true. Unless we want to end up like Greece. Plus, there is no way the average worker is working 47 hours per week.

In addition, because of recent legislation, companies are hiring part time workers head of full time employees.

Oh, dear bleeding hearts. Why are some workers working longer hours? Because workforce participation is low!

The ones working are doing more. We need more people to work.

Plus here is the direct quote. You didn't have it all.

  • “My aspiration for the country and I believe we can achieve it, is 4 percent growth as far as the eye can see. Which means we have to be a lot more productive, workforce participation has to rise from its all-time modern lows. It means that people need to work longer hours” and, through their productivity, gain more income for their families. That's the only way we're going to get out of this rut that we're in

Find me the rule that says you only work 40 hours a week or only one job. If one job doesn't get it done then you take a second job and a third, whatever it takes to make yourself not dependent on handouts and monthly checks.

But, that is not fair

Not fair, cried the liberals!

Depends on what your job is. People who work longer hours in these tea cup jobs are just those who would rather blather on all day than sit down, shut up and get the paperwork finished.

I can produce more in much less time than most people. Mainly because I really hate working so when I have to do it, I go warp speed to get the shit done.

Walden is correct.

I too do my work easily within the 8-5 time frame, and still have time to post bullshit here. While I'm posting, the Fat Hogs walk around between cubicles discussing 1400 calorie lunches, trading pictures of their ugly kids, while the rednecks go outside and smoke.

Then there's the suck-ass crowd that deserves to attend an ISIS birthday party. Those are the ones that 'hang around' until 6 or so, just to get noticed by the boss. They screw off most of the day, leaving a small parcel of work to do between 5 & 6. Those are the ones that should be fired, but yet often get awarded because their dumb ass boss can't see through the charade and awards them for working overtime.

Not me, I'm out at 5, and would leave earlier if I thought I could get by with it. There's a hell of a lot of better things to do than sit here with people you hate.

Worker productivity has never been higher, but workers are not sharing in the wealth produced by this. But that is what your corporatist lords want, white slavery.

Green Duke is the kind of person who wants fathers and mothers never home, always at work, and then blame them when their kids turn out to be scumbags. Not everyone is born rich, like the Bush kids. Not everyone is going to have a cushy office job making good money to kiss asses.

This is exactly correct, and what is needed to replace Obamas 30 hours per week revolution.

Without getting into the weeds my wife left a career in engineering to stay home with our kids for many years. Our family income decreased 60% overnight, but we made the decision that their mother should be with them everyday. We lived in the same little house for years and drove cars until the wheels fell off to make it happen and as my career developed some of the financial concerns eased, I had to laugh(and respond to) at your usual broad brush opinion.

the suck-ass crowd

For years, I thought they were good. They fooled me with their big talking. But they're not. It's all talk and no walk. Talk for years about shit that never gets done. Either do it or quit talking about it. They don't do it so they can appear to be "working on it." LOL, working on it my ass. Sitting on it is more like it.

Meanwhile, they find out that I get stuff done fast so they have this urge to ruin it for me. Ruin it with stupid ass busy work like a project journal or the grunt work for someone else's stupid whims. Things that accomplish nothing.

I don't mind a larger workload if it means more projects to do, but I can't stand people adding extra bullshit on to each one just to make it take longer.

I have no idea how people can claim they get work done, yet they post on here all day and only work 8 hours a day.

What year was that and how much per hour were you paid?

People might as well get used to it, unless something changes. You are either going to a part time worker or you are going to be a producer for a company. There is no middle ground anymore. Companies are hesitant to hire people because of all the regulation and cost of employees now. They either hire a bunch of part timers or work the others like a government mule.

You can thank the rainbow warrior in the whitehouse and his chronies.

This is a great question.

I'll say it again, since he responded with a story that has NOTHING to do with my statement. If you are working hard to make this nation productive and increase productivity and the bottom line for a bunch of Wall Street cock suckers, you should not have to work two and three jobs to raise a family. I'm not talking about the Walmart cashiers and the comfy ass-kissers.

Your old brainwashed partisanship is stale. People are starting to smell the bullshit of the Demopubs and Repulidems. That's why Sanders is drawing crowds ranting against Wall Street and our asinine trade policy, and that's why people liked Trump saying to round up the beaners. The white working man is being sold out to the Chinks, Gooks, and the beaners, and all you can bitch about is gays and a negro in the White House.

Well, the middle class is being destroyed. Shouldn't have to, but that is reality.

A damn new car cost more than a house used to. There are ways to make it:

1)Get an education

2)Work hard and work your way up. Too many of these young mush brains want to be the manager or VP on day 1.

3)You better be a people person

4)The grass is always not greener on the other side. Most companies promote good people from within

5)Live below you means.

6)If you can't feed 'em, don't breed 'em

I agree with you, actually. The problem with the Negro in the White House is that is his damn welfar legislation and over regulating of business made the business ass bags push back. I know I work for them. They hire through temp agencies now and then if they hire people either part time or they make one person do the job of two.

They are not going to hire people anymore. I have set in the meetings. The employees and regulations are too expensive. They will make the lady in the office work 55 hours a week instead of hiring another body.

This all happened since the Negro(your term not mine) started his bullshit.

Not when you factor in inflation. Wages need to go up to sell more new cars, like back when everyone with a decent job could get a new Chevy.

We are actually in agreement on many things. This country sold out long ago and destroyed the middle class.

What kind of work does everybody do? Talk all day on the phone? I've heard the talk. It's all nothing. They talk all day long and nothing gets fixed, solved, nothing happens. Waste of time.

Make the damn decision, draw up the plans, crunch the numbers and let's go. Everybody's afraid to decide anything. I'm afraid of going home without a decision. There's the difference.

Who exactly is this,"middle class" that bares no responsibility for the occurrences/outcomes ("selling out") of the country?

It had everything to do with your comment pointed at me and I responded. After part time college jobs I've never been paid by the hour, my first job after graduation paid $178 a week, lol.

Reality is there are a faction of Americans that are well....pussies.

They were raised as pussies by lib flower children and they think everything should be fair and they should have to work all the time or even full time.

That is the truth of the matter. You can see it, especially in this younger generation of 20 somethings and teenagers. Spoiled little soft ass pussies.

Good point. They get blame for voting for Reagan.

Reagan? LMAO. You think the mystical "selling out" started with Reagan? That's as lazy an answer as most welfare recipients waiting on their benefit deposit next month.

I always find it interesting, hypocritical, naïve, dishonest, (or just plain ignorant) that the most self righteous, self promoting- forward thinking, "progressive" people who normally are appalled at past history, traditions, laws, beliefs, morals, business activities, etc. seem to think that returning to the 1950's era economic structure is the answer to all their complaining. They look at one or two metrics of the economy of that time (Wages, tax rates or some other touted media driven watered down "explanation" of economic success) and simply say..."It worked then, lets go back(wards)." It's absurd in so many ways, its impossible to list them all.

These same progressive people who want various economic policies to "improve" the metrics they demand here in the U.S. intentionally ignore the economic outcomes/effects those same policies created in other countries and societies after being implemented. One needs to look no further than Greece, Italy, Portugal and most other European countries to see the results of what they are desiring. The suggestion made by many these days, that somehow instituting policies, essentially forcing higher costs on the producers of goods and services, while also demanding they deliver or sell a lower cost ("free") good or service to the buyers, (because it is "fair") is mind boggling ignorance.

The thing about it is there's not much real work left. You can't make much money with real work. The big bucks are made in bullshitting. You can do OK shuffling papers. Everything is already either made or robots can make it now. The work is in selling it, keeping track of it or maintaining it.

So there's still work, but probably not as much as there used to be. We wanted an easier life for ourselves and now we've got it. It's just going to be harder now for your average bonehead to get their hands on a very nice size of the pie.

No, the selling out started under Nixon. I am more referring to the trend of middle class and poor blue collar whites voting against their interests because Jesus and Reagan told them to.

As for the rest of your rambling balderdash, I am not one appalled by old laws and culture. And it is comical to compare the US to Greece, etc, and those countries have been shitholes of no importance for centuries. I am sure I can find an African country with low taxes and few regulations to ask you why those spear-chuckers are still dirt poor.

Maybe it is a conspiracy to turn us into pussies. Then John Chinaman will attack.

I think it's just the natural order of things. We're not tough enough to last. Certainly not physically.

Maybe some of us are still mentally cold hearted and calculated enough to orchestrate what must be done to sustain everything, but what do we do with all these loud women and the men they drag around by the sack?
