or labor lawyers can you explain what exactly these new dept of labor regulations to overtime/exempt employees mean to the average Joe Schmo I just can't seem to figure them out
Thats what I thought I just wanted to make sure. It will be interesting to see how many job descriptions and titles change as well as how many people get a pay increase to avoid overtime pay.Sorry, but what ambiguity do you see in the article? They are raising the threshold at which employees can be consider exempt from overtime pay. Example, you have a bank branch manager who has a salary of $48,000. Without this change, if he worked 50 hours in a week he would not be eligible for overtime pay because he was a salaried (exempt) employee and his salary was above the $23,000 level. With the level being increased to $50k his employer would have to pay him overtime for the hours above 40.
I have no problem with this. The libs tend to focus on the minimum wage crowd, but it's really the lower and low middle management types that have been abused for the sake of productivity gains. This especially happens in retail where they promote someone to shift manager, put them on salary, and then restrict their staffing so that they end up working 80 hours a week to stay within budget.
