So 1 good season makes you a somebody?
Kiffin's biggest downfall is his past as well as his lack of stability amongst any program he's in. You don't think Doc, Davis, Strong, and everyone else in FL is going to not mention that?
Plus, most potential recruits know this, and with the idea of having 1 good season, they may be hesitant in wanting to join on, knowing once he's gone, they could be back to square one.
Davis is pretty much going to retire from this job I assume. Once more, he's not in any position to make major strides with FIU. I imagine if you got FIU's AD drunk, he'd admit he probably didn't even think Davis could make them relevant.
However, FIU also isn't expecting the CFP anytime soon. They'll be perfectly happy with 8 wins a season for the next 5 years running, because for them, who have hardly ever had any real success, would consider that stable and fine with it.
