We need to hire him and give him the HCIW tag and have him help retire Doc like Jimbo did Bobby.

He was calling the shots for Arizona for a few games, HC said in a media report that he did excellent and could be a good OC and with a little more experience would be a great coach..

I seriously doubt he would ever come back here to coach. Byron has moved on. I don't think he has the love of this town and program like he once did. He hasn't really come back much since he left. He was treated poorly by Marcum and I think that tainted him a bit.

He was on the sidelines during the Military Bowl and at another function recently.

Maybe the dude is busy coaching also.

Either way, he should be the future HC at Marshall.

Plus he is on the verge of moving up in the NFL. Taking our job is a step back for him. NFL guys usually stay in the NFL. Don't see a lot of college guys going pro coaching and vice versa.

Not true at all

Plenty of coaches go back and forth.

I hope I'm wrong but I predict Jeff Mullen as the new OC. After WVU ran him off, I recall he was paid to come to Huntington during summer practices and do some type of paid quality control type work. Clearly, Doc had respect for him. He was horrible at WVU. I don't want him.

I thought everyone wanted Doc to think outside of MU and not bring in someone from within MU in any way?
I like Leftwich but I agree that its possible he may not be up to it.
Dear lord, I pray not Mullen! He's the Rippon of offense.

But Mullen would bring “motion”!

I’m going to go ahead and throw the name out there, even though it’s purely a pipe dream; Pennington.

I agree, the problem is not all of Marshall's offensive problems were Bill Legg's. Then entire offense is coming back so someone is walking into a great situation.

Well, it's a "pipe dream" because you'd have to be smoking some serious stuff to hire Pennington as an OC. He might be great, but Pennington has no coaching experience. OC at a DI program is not a starter job.

Boy Judge, you woke up in a crabby mood.

Aside from being a starting QB in college, and for multiple teams in the NFL I guess Chad has nothing to offer in terms of football knowledge.

It’s not unheard of for a guy to have his first big coaching job being a coordinator. There’s this guy at Texas Tech that did it.

Legg had tons of experience. The only real success he had while here was when Cato was here. Jmo

How stuff works:

- Playing football and coaching football are two different skills. There are lots of people who can do both, of course, but just because someone played football at a high level does not imply that he can coach at a similar level, or at all.

- Coaching, all over the country, is a big network of people you know and work with, over a life time. It is like a family tree. You look at it on a chart and see relationships. 100% certain that Doc will hire someone Doc, or some assistant, but probably Doc, knows and has worked with. The sad part of that, of course, is most of Doc coaching life was spent working for Don Nehlen.

Kingsbury was first hired at Houston as a quality control assistant. He only got a chance to co-coordinate when Holgs left for Okie State.

Not a bad mood at all. It's just that I've coached for a long time. I've worked with several great former players who went on to become terrible coaches. And this is high school. I don't doubt Pennington's knowledge, and perhaps he is the next Belichick. But maybe not. D1 college OCs should have to prove first that they can coach.

One the flip side, experience alone does not ensure quality, either. Though in Legg's defense, he has been successful at this level for many years - like him or not.

Legg had a great offense at Purdue

You don't know what you're talking about.

Chase had over 3000 yards, 26 touchdowns and 3 straight years of 60% completion.

He did all that with crappy playcalling, an offense that never highlighted the talent on the roster, and never manufactured an offense tailored to the skills on the QB.

They had to keep chase on a short lease because he could go turnover crazy at any moment.

Pennington can't stand Holliday and would never work under him.. he has been subleasing his box and probably won't return until this staff is gone...

No way Chad will be coaching as OC. He loves Marshall but is very involved in youth sports here. He loves being involved with his kids. I talk with him frequently and no way he goes into college coaching. Maybe when his kids grow older but I don’t see it happening anytime soon.

Josh you don't know as much as you think you know

Please elaborate.

If you’re talking about Chad, I’m not going into what he is/has been doing in regards to his suite. That’s his business, and no one else’s, but I can assure you, his opinion of Doc is not what was stated above.
